Before spending more significant money I highly recommend trying a 5v 3a Powerbank to power both units. I'm completely satisfied with this arrangement. Jules which powerbank are you using? And do you keep it permanently connected to the charger or just charge it up in between use?

So the D70 has arrived after a trial in my father's system in the UK. It's sounding very nice but think my current source a Squeezebox Touch might be limiting its performance and doesn't look like it supports the D70s USB chip set.
I've just grabbed the Oehlbach Masterclock XXL which Brian was selling. Now just the source and power supplies to sort.
So after an Asus Tinker Board S and thoughts on powering that and the Oehlbach. I was thinking about an Allo Shanti super capacitor dual output psu.

The Oehlbach is a brilliant little bit of kit, as many of us know. I hope Simon lets us know what he thinks of it. I will do. I wasn't letting this one get away at that price 😀 It will go nicely with the D70 I got from Jerry the other week. Now just need to decide what to use as a streamer. Anybody got a ATBs they want to move on?

I now have both units running off the same power bank which simplifies things even further. I still have one of the Chinese power banks Stan used to recommend for his Dac's. I wonder if that would do the job?

Looks impressive John, unfortunately not quite in my budget for this project.

I'm using the Tinker S + Oehlbach reclocker + D70. I can only say that I'm very satisfied with the resolution and musicality of this combination, but I've not tried the alternatives you mention. Like John I'm playing around with other aspects of my system and don't really feel the need to make changes to the streaming side of things beyond tweaks. I do like the simplicity of the ATB+ reclocker. It's an extra box to the pi, but no messing around with getting different hat cards to work together different psu's required and finding a case. Is Volumio the only player available for The ATB?

You pleased with the D70, Simon? Hi Jerry, I haven't received from my dad yet, but he is pretty impressed with it on the first listen. So I might be waiting a while for it to make it to Dublin 🙂 Thanks again.

I'm just about to start a new project. I've just recently acquired a Topping D70 dac. Which will be replacing my Beresford Bushmaster 2 with Dorado Psu.
So with this new Dac coming I think it's time I look at upgrading from my current Squeezebox Touch which although makes a great source I know there are several better options available.
I am considering the following options and would like to know what people think. In no particular order:
1. Asus Tinker Board S - USB out With the option of adding USB reclocking better psu.
2. Pi 4 - USB out. Again reclocking Psu and better USB hats available.
3. Pi, reclocking hat (kali, Ian Canada), i2s over hdmi.
4. Same as 3 but with SPDIF or AES hat instead of i2s.
I know alot of people are using the ATB with good results, but I've never felt USB is the best solution for connecting a dac, but TBH I have no experience to back this up.
Having followed what Martin and speedysteve have done i2s looks interesting but I not read of anybody trying it with the D70?

Just listened to this album all the way through while walking the dog. First time I've listened to it all in a while and it's still great even on Bluetooth headphones from the phone.
I saw the Pixies live at a smallish outdoor gig a few years ago and they put on a great energetic performance.

I saw Nine Inch Nains at a festival probably 10 years ago in the rain, only knowing one or two songs and it was a brilliant performance. Nearly made up for sleeping through Nick Cave the night before.

There's a difference between the i2s standard for internal cabling which as Steve says need to be very short and just designed for linking internal circuits/modules. My understanding is that i2s over hdmi or cat5 uses a line driver within the circuit to allow it to be used over longer external interconnects.
I'm sure Martin can add more detail.

What a shocker of a year. I used to play Binaural by Pearl Jam a lot. Although only a recent discovery for me I do like Linkin Park's Hybrid Theory a lot, it's a powerful album. I must gave missed Hybrid Theory, that would maks my list as well.

Considering I was 19 for most of 2000 it should be a good year for me, but not that many albums stand out, but I'll add.
Queens of the Stone Age - Rated R PJ Harvey - Stories from the city, stories from the sea Mark Knopfler - Sailing to Philadelphia Radiohead - Kid A

I'd be very surprised if it didn't have a TPM module, I'd say they just enforce the additional pin.

I did wonder about that. I must reboot and see what happens. I would hope the Bluetooth service would start to enable the keyboard and mouse. I've confirmed that the bluetooth subsystem runs fine on Windows startup. No problem doing Ctrl-Alt-Del and entering my PIN. Martin, is that at the windows login screen? My corporate laptop is encrypted with bitlock which has a pin challenge, before Windows boots.

There is a narrower version available, too. EDIT: damn, it's not bluetooth, only 2.4GHz dongle. I have a similar DELL one, it still has the number pad, but compresses the cursor keys etc like a laptop keyboard. Only had it a couple weeks but it's great for swapping between my work laptop on Bluetooth and PC on wireless. On issue I've found is the bit locker pin needs to be entered on the laptop keyboard as the Bluetooth connection isn't available at that point.

They look great, but I wonder if it's just an existing IAG product in a stylish retro Leak box?

M2 is the fastest type of NVMe but check that the PC can take it. Thanks Martin, the Dell Micro units support NVMe Class 40 drives. The one I'm looking at is supplied with a 256GB Class 35 drive. And has a spare SATA 3.0 interface.
