So I'll probably end my turntable journey there. I'm sure a top-flight turntable would sound wonderful in my system and I got this turntable for free so there's no problems , so as I've said before if anyone is passing Maidstone with a nice turntable Pop in.
Its a shame that I don't drive James because despite it being far from a "top-flight" turntable, I'd be around to you in a shot with the TD125 seen below so that I could slot it into your excellent system
I was very much in the same boat as you and its taken me three different turntables to get where I am today and be happy with the sound vinyl produces. Even with a record cleaner though, it can still be a very fussy medium to use and buying second hand vinyl is still very much a minefield. But when vinyl reproduction is good, its a joy to behold and that is from somebody who still embraces CD's and primarily downloads high-res 24/96 or 24/192 flac downloads. If your ever passing by junction 6 on the M25, drop me a message here and your more than welcome to pop up and hear vinyl in my system.
Cheers Pete

Bump... and I'd consider a straight swap for a S/PDIF RCA to RCA digital cable of a similar value... so what have you go?

Surplus to my current requirements, I have a pair of 3m Sumiko OCOS speaker cables terminated with IXOS plugs sat in my cable draw available for sale. I'm looking for £80 firm, which includes FREE UK mainland shipping. Tracked worldwide shipping is also available at cost, somewhere between £10 to £15 I'd imagine depending on location. Payment via PayPal Gift or Bank Transfer preferred. Cheers Pete

Just to echo the sentiment of previous posters, great work Colin and good to see the rebirth of an old classic

Okki Nokki owner here too and it's one of the best audio related investments I've made. Yes, there are more expensive options available, but I was just not willing to spend four figures on a cleaning device, at least until I'd tried one of the mid-price options. This is a superbly built piece of kit and its easy to use. However, don't expect it to banish every single crackle and pop. Its only as good as the slab of vinyl it cleans and it won't magically remove scratches etc. The major plus is that on well recorded new vinyl, after cleaning, it can sound as good (if not better is subjective) than hi bitrate .mp3's, flac/hi-res files. It really is that good. However, on second hand vinyl, your still very much at the mercy of what hides under the surface dust. If you can find vintage mint or vg+ vinyl, your in for a treat, just beware of vinyl sellers enthusiastic grading. All in all, for the money, the best place to start with cleaning unloved vinyl.. just don't expect miracles.

They are only light construction devices chaps, really intended for lighter weight cases with inherent resonance. Pushing their use to large speakers was an experiment and agreed, a step too far. However they proved quite effective under heavier electronics using just one under the lightest point and keeping the weight on existing feet. Not in my experience Steve... I have plenty of emails between Steve @ Electric Beach and myself discussing the development and use of them under my speakers. Sure 25-30kgs is at their max limit, but if they didn't work under heavier loads, I wouldn't trust them under my £2K speakers

I've found the spec for the Cheviots online and 30kg appears to be the general consensus. Steve @ Electric Beach made this X2 set especially for me and my Cheviots and although we did have one of the 16 fail, I returned it to him, he repaired it and it didn't fail again. Just to be safe, I'd say that 25kg is probably a safe limit...

Just to add, when I had a pair of Cheviots, here they are in situ. However, I would add (and Steve @ Electric Beach wouldn't mind my saying) they were at the very limit of their weight supporting capacity I've also used three under my TD125 Mk.II and the only reason I've recently replaced them was the lack of being able to level the deck...

I've got a set of the older type if anybody would like to borrow and try them and had them under a pair of Tannoy Cheviots and custom stands. I also currently have the latest iteration between my AN-E's and their stands

Many thanks chaps... after a disappointing experience with a dealer serviced/set-up LP12/Denon DL110, I really didn't think I'd ever embrace vinyl again. But having kept hold of all my black stuff, I decided to give it one final try when this stock 125 became available elsewhere. I must admit at this point that purchasing a record cleaning machine has enhanced playback no end, a luxury not afforded to my previous Rega Acos or LP12 decks . As it really should, it makes enough of a difference to justfy the extra expense. I was reading James/Sovereigns turntable experiences on another thread here with great interest, if only to see if he would indeed give it a go and give it a chance. In my case, I'm really not sure what it is about the TD125, but it just makes vinyl sound good. So good in fact that nearly all of my music related purchases have swung almost entirely from flac downloads to old or reissued vinyl. Sure, its not a perfect medium, but with a good clean pressing/recording, I finally get what all the fuss is about. I still enjoy 24bit flac recordings, but I also love vinyl, despite its imperfections...

Cheers Chris, appreciate the feedback I'm now looking at the link between the deck and my amp. My AN Oto SE is unfortunately a non-phono example, so I rely on a phono amp. The Benedict Audio Hothead MC I currently use was bought with what I could afford at that time and don't get me wrong, it apppears to do a good job. However, I can't help thinking that I could possibly extract more if I could pick up something better at around £500... I have an itch to scratch with the NVA Phono 2, but I may wait until after Christmas and see what tickles my fancy then

Ohhh Rich, yum! I hankered after a pair of these around 12 months ago, but I'm just glad that a) I'm happy with my current speakers and b) your far enough away from me that getting them to me would be a right royal pain... fantastic price for a super pair of speakers, so GLWTS

I'd imagine its horse for course. My latest foray into vinyl is based solely around my trying to obtain the very best sounding recording, irrespective of whether its an original copy or a reissue. But I do realise there are collectors out there who want an original pressing, regardless of its sonic attributes. That means there's hope for me getting a decent return on my A1/B3 pressing of Wish You Were Here, despite it having a scratch. So if somebody is willing to pay extra simply because its an early pressing, I'm more than happy with that...
