I see that the download has completed on my main PC but not yet on my laptop or tablet.
Just waiting for the "we'll let you know when its ready to install" stage...
I'm very tempted to click on 'setup.exe' to see if I can force it !!

I'm a big KEF fan, BUT the bigger the better - I'm not so keen on the smaller ones (e.g. I don't like the LS50s). They tend to be very neutral so the rest of your system needs to be good.. The Kent Engineering Foundry C5 is currently on offer at £249:95. At that price I feel it has to go on my list, very many thanks, I had not considered this make. KEF's for sure, but the C5 isn't one of their better ones - I'd look at the Q/IQ models (e.g. IQ5)

It was a QUAD system - 33/303 with ESL 57's back in the late 70's I can't even remember what the deck was, I was too blown away by the sound (mostly the speakers). It was a long, long time until I heard anything as good as that again.

I am Box, I have recently started taking an interest in audio equipment and you can expect many questions from me regarding high fidelity reproduction. Going for a look around now and see what the standard actually is. The standard is of course largely based on how much money you have to spend !

I used to use DAB and found it better than FM, HOWEVER I now live in a fringe reception area where FM is poor and DAB keeps dropping out. For me therefore the only thing that works at decent quality is internet radio.

..... i have been to a couple of hi-fi shows lately , but i'm afraid that after a couple of visits to the various rooms , i am bored !! i love to play my own system and my own choice of music , and the thought of spending a night with a dozen or so semi-strangers swapping & changing gear just does not appeal to me at all . Last few times I went to the shows I felt the same, and to my ears even the really expensive systems didn't sound much better than my own. Interesting to see new products though.

Sadly not just EBay - I use Amazon Prime a lot, and you used to be able to rely on their 'next day delivery'. In the past I've had orders I placed 9 pm one night turn up 11 am next day.
It's becoming more the case that next day becomes 2-3 days or even more.

I suspect a lot of people ask a question to which they already have the answer. It's usually a matter of proving to yourself that you made the right choice, especially if for any reason you have doubts.
I drive my wife nuts whenever I've bought a new toy by spending ages afterwards looking around to see if I could have done better !

I've seen the name 'Krellman' on a couple of other audio forums but he/she doesn't seem to have posted much - perhaps he/she is only a very occasional user ?

Do you have to remove any feet that the manufacturers have put on - if not then you're at the mercy of any interaction between the old and the new.

Things like this just have to be trialled as their effect is going to vary widely depending on the equipment and circumstances (e.g. floor/shelf type)
They don't seem to offer a 'money back if not satisfied' deal but worth asking them.

"Blurry ell" as Gordon would say. That XLR set were a git to make up. I appreciate soldering is not my No1 skill. Nor my No2 skill. In fact, if you started counting at a brisk pace you would still be counting tomorrow before we got there. Solder with some bloody lead in it might help For your next challenge, try soldering some 5 pin din plugs !!!

Be careful with installing iTunes on a Windows machine. It has the ability to screw with it royally. I will not have that software on any of my machines. Definitely - like much Apple hardware and software it has its own way of doing things and they're not always compatible with other software.

Revisiting this, it's always a fun mental exercise. My lottery win would go to: 1) Taking care of my retirement, my family and loved ones with some wise investments 2) Upgrading but not trashing the hi-fi system I have spent years building 3) Buying a house up north or in Wales or somewhere with peace and quiet, a great view and a good listening room 4) Buying an 18-19' powerboat (perhaps a Regal) on a trailer that I can tow and service myself 5) Travelling to some places still on my list of must-visit-before-I-die With regard to point 3 - have you any idea how bloody noisy a chewing, belching, farting, bleating flock of sheep can be throughout the night? Kinda rules out Wales straight away Probably as noisy as a flock of ducks fighting/mating/whatever on the pond just outside your bedroom window. (How do you keep ducks away ?)

A house in its own grounds where I could play music at any time/volume without worrying about the neighbours. Till then, my Stax headphone systems are a good compromise for late night listening. I have no real hankering for mega-expensive equipment which, to me, seems mostly to be expensive for the 'exclusivity' the price tag provides, rather than for any massive sonic superiority. I'm with you on that one - maybe a good all round system about £20k would do me (Oh and a Range Rover for when I'm not listening to music)

I tried running fans but it just blew the hot air about.
Surely what we need is a portable aircon device that does actually cool the air rather than just blowing it.
Does such a device exist that doesn't cost a fortune ? Even the pricey Dyson 'hot and cool' doesn't actually cool the air despite its name.
p.s. I'm just getting over health problems and need to keep my temperature down especially at night..

".... Peter Ledermann who has rebuilt thousands of cartridges for SoundSmith, says that most of the well used stylii he sees show greater wear on the outside than on the inside, and this tells him that most people are using too much anti-skate."
Now they tell me !
Many years ago when I ran a TT I always noticed that when 'worn out' the wear was very uneven from side to side. I always followed tracking and anti-skate rules to the letter. So it wan't my fault at all, it was the instructions that were wrong !
