I've managed to get my RasPi3 to work wirelessly. I had to change my router security to WPA2-PSK[AES] - it was set on WPA Auto to start with.

Thanks but t’was already set to WPA. Ive turned off Imac wireless (i think it was only on for driving my wireless printer) and made sure LMS recognises both RPIs (it does). On Picore player I have Wifi set to off, but RPI internal Wifi to on. Will try again tomorrow. Thanks

Keeping Volumio Up to DateI noticed last night that, as well as checking for Volumio updates in the System menu, you need to check that your plug-ins are up to date in the Plug-Ins menu. Both my Spotify and YouTube plug-ins had updates waiting. With the Spotify Connect volspotconnect plug-in, you need to do it manually by checking here for the latest volspotconnect.zip file. The latest file, dated 22 April, features a fix for Prev/Next Play buttons. Note that manual plug-ins can now only be installed via SSH - scroll down for the read-me.

Mr Efficient* speaks Could a batch file check for Volumio file updates ? *Not lazy or technically incompetent at all !

There is a Check for Updates button, you can't get easier than that.

Further information: there is a simple Spotify plug-in included with Volumio called volspotconnect2. This works but does not update the Volumio display while playing. For the full blown version which keeps the Volumio display updated, you need to install volspotconnect using PuTTY. Enable SSH by going to http://volumio.local/DEV Login as volumio with password volumio
wget https://github.com/balbuze/volumio-plugins/raw/master/plugins/music_service/volspotconnect/volspotconnect.zip mkdir ./volspotconnect miniunzip volspotconnect.zip -d ./volspotconnect cd ./volspotconnect volumio plugin install I'm giving the above as there is a typo in Balbuze' instructions.

I trust Martin et al will not resist these rPi/Streamer observations.
I started to play, no project, a few years ago. Currently running a pair of rPis a 2 and 3. One uses a USB Disc the other uses a NAS. Why? Just interested in if it made any difference.
I tried Volumio and another but settled on Moode and have passed through the various versions.
In the last few days I have jumped to version 4.1. Why did I rest? Upto version 4 Tim Curtis supplied a compiled image that was easy to install (for some) to an SD Card. Because it is free one cannot offer an assembled item. Now after installing Raspian one has to run a very capably constructed script that complies the image for you. I couldn't get it to work in the beta versions so had a rest. Now a full release is done it all works beautifully I discovered a couple of days ago.
I note that some negative reactions on this thread to Moode. Depending on your skills and uses you wish to put your streamer to give it a try. Spotify, Tidal and other services may not work effortlessly. If you use Apple and AirPlay there isn't much of a problem.
Back to project thinking

Yup, Alan, the only reason I didn't try Moode was that Apple Airplay was offered as a solution to Spotify et al and I saw this as a clunky workaround. I do not want Apple software anywhere near my systems.
For others, it has given them exactly what they want.
I don't think we care about what software build members use for their Pi-based streamer, the good news is that the Pi is a remarkable piece of kit. Its ability to run such a high end solution, when combined with add-on cards like the DigiOne, opens up the world of quality digital to many more people.

It's great that it does what you need it to do and I would have embraced Moode wholeheartedly if it had allowed the use of Spotify in a simpler way, as I like a lot of what Tim's creation has to offer. The reason I became interested in the Pi in the first place was because I wanted a means of making Spotify sound better. Volumio does it rather well.

Tim has set up his own forum since the DIY days, moodeaudio.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?fid=3 shows a thread about Spotify. There is certainly an interest to get SPotify working and some have managed it as one can see. If I read it correctly Tim is eager to integrate it into Moode. So don't write it off yet. I shall be trying the Spotify route too.

If he does manage it then I'll be happy to give it a try on a spare SD card. Volumio does everything I want, though.

I have installed an effort by a project contributor called RafaPolit. Listening now and so far so good. I use a USB DAC on this rPi but hear i2s devices can play up. Have a look at github.com/RafaPolit/moode-spotify-connect-web when you have a moOde running. It worked for me in 20 mins. These people I trust. They never mention fuses.

Alan, what is this persistence with mentioning fuses? If they don't work for you, fine. They work for me and if you imagine that trolling about fuses in every post is going to suddenly make me change my mind about them, you are sadly mistaken.

Alan has seemingly defined this forum by the contents of one or two threads, which I find rather odd. We have far more threads about classical music or sport, TV / film for example, than about the accessories and modifications that he so prolifically derides both here and elsewhere.

I've been using an Allo USBridge recently, I'm finding it's a little better than a Pi but the differences are small and could be down to several variables. One thing I have tried which applies equally to the Pi is to try the Chinese 12V-24V to 5V regulators that John and Martin have been using. On the USBridge I have been powering the USB audio board with an Sbooster LPS and the Sparky SBC (similar to a Pi) from a more generic LPS. Given that the Sbooster is a fairly decent PS I thought I'd done enough. Until yesterday.
I hooked up two 12V 7Ahr batteries to two 5V regs so I had two totally individual power supplies. The improvement isn't huge but is it quite noticeable. The sound is more powerful (dynamic) and the bass has more detail on some tracks where there used to be a single homogenized note there's now 2 or more sounds making up the note(s).
Quite how the regs and batteries are doing this vs decent LPS'....maybe it's due to the SBC not feeding noise back into the mains.

There is something about battery power. Like you, I've compared very good linear power supplies and battery always seems to win out. Those Chinese DC-DC converters are amazingly good performers.

Meant to say, you can just squeeze a Tokin supercap under each USB socket if you're handy with a soldering iron.
