If I don't repeat most things they will be forgotten.
Jacking point on my Saab is one I always struggle with as I fortunately hardly ever use it. Computer and various technology. Do it once, a few weeks or months later it has gone.
Getting better but I still need my check list for bread making

The little Fire tablet arrived this morning and after a few minutes (literally) of setting up I have a "remote control" for Alexa. It can live upstairs, in the bedroom, and eventually control the bedroom lights, and probably the loo too, for those early morning visits. So far (he says, touching wood) things appear to be going to plan. Setting devices up can be a bit of a pain in the bum, but I'm streamlining the process as I go. The Fire wasn't something I considered at the start of this experiment, but I'm really glad I thought of it...except, of course, it's now going to cost me more money for the extra sockets and light-switches upstairs. C'est la vie.

Try speedysteve challenge of playing some radio station in Stockholm that's unpronounceable! Would that be P4 Östergötland, Martin? I found this on the Radio Sweden Alexa "skill" page... [EDIT] OK, downloaded/installed Swedish Radio "skill", learned how to pronounce Östergötland via YouTube, asked Alexa "Alexa, play P4 Östergötland from Swedish Radio” and if I understood Swedish I'd know if the right thing was playing because it's now playing a Swedish station for me.

Haha. I'm in Sweden right now! Nyköping Sörmland to be more precise.
Do you know if it's playing P4 Östergötland or P4 Uppland, or Gotland or Västermanland though? They rattle them off pretty fast and then It's live radio..
I think the skill has not loaded properly or corrupted somehow for us and no amount of disabling and enabling us making any difference. It did work fine for about a week!
Others have had problems with the Swedish Radio Flashnews briefing playing P4 Kalmar instead! We've never had that problem at least.
Fun and games.

Steve, the trick (for me at least) seems to be leaving a <beat> between "P4" and "Östergötland." It still works today but I still haven't a clue whether it's the right channel or not. DOH! I just did the obvious and listened to the station on the web (https://sverigesradio.se/ostergotland) and the same tune is playing so bar a huge coincidence I've got the correct station.

Yeah, in the afternoons after a certain time all the local stations play the same programme so it could be any of them. I still think our 'skill' is messed up. But how to un-mess?! It's the same on our Echo dots and Sonos. Must try on a phone or tablet and see..

BUGGER!
Today's lesson is: Never assume that your house wiring has a "neutral" wire. All of the smart switches I've seen so far require a neutral to operate. I don't have a neutral, as I've just discovered. I stupidly assumed that as there were hundreds of these bloody smart switches for sale in the UK that the "neutral option" was the default option for UK wiring. I'm really pleased I only bought one light switch to test things before buying a house-load.
Back to the bloody drawing board. The first 'solution' I've seen involves smart dimmers, a hub of some sort, and proprietary lamps, all of which add up to far more than I will spend, especially as I've got a lot of LED lamps already installed, and more waiting to be installed, which would all then become useless.
n.b. If you were wondering, the switches need a neutral to work as, if you're only using a switched live, there's bugger-all to actually power the switch, which needs to be connected to your wireless at all times. The dimmers work by turning the current down to a trickle rather than completely off, which isn't powerful enough to light the lamp but is just enough to maintain a continuous wireless signal.

I guess older houses didn't have. Commiserations. Stick to P4 Östergötland Not even Marie's mum who's lived in the neighbouring county her whole life and listens to P4 Östergötland every day can get Alexa to play ball with P bloody 4 Öster bloody götland!
