Yes, I've got Golani on CD, too. She never really did it for me, but the one linked above rather blew me away. ____ Mozart's son now in some rather fine chamber music. Yes, I know he's not as good as his father, but ffs no-one is!

Contemporary Russian. Quite a different musical voice to anyone else - can be very 'challenging', but the linked album is approachable and interestingly distinctive. Sort of minimalist.

Mahler - Symphony No. 10
Re-listening to this great symphony before the Prom on Saturday. First up is the Tilson Thomas version.

Scriabin piano concerto. - it grows on me. Sort of a hyped-up Rachmaninov! Wonderful sq on this recording from the Italian audiophile company RS.

Mahler - Symphony No. 10
Finally, I played my boxed vinyl set of the Rattle/Bournemouth recording. It stands scrutiny very well indeed for a 'second rate' orchestra and the interpretation is faultless. Wonderful sound.

I tried that Rattle B'mthSO Mahler 10 again recently We hear things very differently, Martin. (But I think we knew that!)
I find it bland, boring, an emotional desert.
I heard some of the Proms performance on the car radio this afternoon, it sounded far superior! I will def have a proper listen from the BBC website.

Yes, the Prom was outstanding and the Tennstedt is a great recorded performance. What I'm saying is that the Rattle didn't disgrace itself as with, for instance, his very dull Planets. It's at least as good as, if not better than, the Tilson Thomas.

Ah, well, Tilson Thomas. A bit like Abbado - his performances strike me as efficient and technically meticulous, but bland and generic. I do like my music to be interpreted not just a robotic read-out of the score.
______
A beautiful Russian work for the strange combination of double choir and solo oboe!
