Better than the Karajan, Jerry?

Different rather than better. Certainly comparable. There's a warmth to the interpretation lacking in Karajan. More modern recording, too, makes the Karajan sound a bit scrawny.
I'm happy to have both available.

One of my favourite violin concertos, The Gurdjieff concerto by Australian composer Larry Sitsky. The concerto is heavily influenced by Armenian music, as a quick look at Wiki would indicate ... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_GurdjieffI am very much into Armenian music at the moment, a very different tonality to what we are accustomed to in the West. Beautiful.

Listening now, Jerry. Not for me, I'm afraid. However, I like being introduced to new music. Sometimes, like Ligeti or McCabe, it really sticks.

No, I listened to the long track 1. I'll go back and listen to tracks 2 onwards.

Lepo Sumera 1st symphony. The long 1st mvt is quite like Arvo Part in magisterial mood.
Wow - magnificent!

Here's some gorgeous Vivaldi with the superb Heinz Holliger doing his usual thing with the oboe ... A most refined performance and recording from Philips. Not just an oboist, Mr Holliger is also a conductor and composer. I will be looking out for an oboe performance in this country for sure.

Love Vivaldi bassoon works but then I love most Vivaldi anyway … A 1975 release - usual superb Philips sound quality displayed here.

Classic Erato recording of Durufle Requiem - was lucky enough to get a sealed copy of the vinyl from France ... Came in a stunning gatefold sleeve. Considering the age of the recording, from 1958, the sound is rather splendid! Not sure if you have this one MartinT - if not, you need it ...

This SACD and all the other Vaughan Williams Symphonies conducted by the late Richard Hickox on Chandos are well worth listening to. CH10001 by Steve Coward, on Flickr
