That is scary. Just hope the girl is allowed some kind of life outside music whilst she is young.

Casella's 2nd is a fairly dramatic affair, Jerry.

Indeed, 3 excellent symphonies that are well worth exploring.

Speaking of Richter, his music for The Leftovers helped make the series utterly compelling viewing.

Fabulously intense cello playing here. Great recording, too - very visceral and present. So what if it's mono! Puts most stereo recordings to shame in many important ways imho.

The Gladiator soundtrack is superb. Most of those other films are not to my taste so I wouldn't know the soundtrack. Hans Zimmer does write excellent scores, though.

In search of the perfect Bach Toccata and Fugue in D Minor. It's harder than I thought as the excellent Virgil Fox doesn't appear to be on streaming. There are so many idiosyncratic readings that push and pull the timing in ugly ways. I finally went with E Power Biggs' reading which is delivered straight enough and uses a good sounding organ. This also features a lovely Passacaglia. open.qobuz.com/track/5222363

For me the best Bach Toccata and Fugue in D Minor is the orchestral transcription by Stokowski on this recording with the Czech Phil.
Interestingly, it was also Edward Greenfield's favourite recording [of anything!].

Interestingly, it was also Edward Greenfield's favourite recording [of anything!]. Argh - no, sorry. It was a long day yesterday and my mind (such as it is) was wandering a bit. Yes, that's a good T&F by Stokowski, but what I was actually referring to was the Passacaglia and Fugue BWV582 on that same album. Doh. That was also the track that Edward Greenfield reckoned to be the best recording of anything, ever!
