there are speedier versions of Bach solo violin, but these are intense and convincing

Morton Subotnik - Touch & Jacob's Room This goes back to my youth. I've no idea how to categorise it but it seems more classical in construction? On Qobuz only. open.qobuz.com/track/49081902

Violinist Zina Schiff again, I like her playing (see also previous Bloch and Franck albums).

One of my favourite albums, and has been for decades. The Pictures at an Exhibition is good, and interestingly orchestrated by Leo Funtek rather than the standard Ravel. But the standout is the Songs and Dances of Death, sung with amazing power and passion by Martti Talvela.

That is lovely. We heard live Russian choral singing (religious and folk) a couple of times on our visit to Russia in 2013.
I bought a couple of CDs at the time, could have bought 20. We heard such good music on our travels.

C.P.E. Bach - The Three Cello Concertos [Hidemi Suzuki/Bach Collegium Japan]
This album always cheers me up. I can't listen to it without smiling idiotically blissfully.

stunningly gorgeous Russian church music, ravishingly recorded by Reference Recordings I recommended that one the week before Christmas, Jerry. I described it as "sumptuous."

Ah, so that's why it was on my Spotty playlist. This Casella 1st symphony is tuneful and impressively symphonic.

Ah, so that's why it was on my Spotty playlist. I was interested to see you'd revisited "Into Silence," which was one of my Classical Album Choice picks. Any improvement on three out of five?

My memory these days I'd completely forgotten it had been an AotM here. 3/5, eh? That still seems about right, I got bored with it and moved on to something else.

The Casella chappie impresses with his 2nd sym as well as his 1st.
Try the 2nd movement of the symphony - superbly exciting!
