The Michell TecnoArm version of the Rega was very nice indeed and worked well on a Strathclyde STD-305M.

I have a new-found respect for Michell after seeing, handling and assembling the Orbe. I also have an Iso that I've used for years and love. Then there's the Michell branded RB250 that's fully silver wired. After giving my mate the Orbe, I don't have a feck to use the Rega arm on. I'm sure something suitable will be along soon. Probably beginning with the letter "X".

The techno arm is an interesting take on the old RB models, but Rega have seemingly now eliminated the need for pipe drilling and so on in recent models I believe by tweaking the tonearm pipe casting to advantage. An RB330 is free to sing and not held back as the original could sound in some situations and if you want better finish and wiring, get the next one up rather than a pimped RB250 series. I still don't get the underslung counterweights sold as me-too add-ons by third party vendors though as we're not talking uni-pivots here and turntables are usually pretty level. The stock Rega counterweights can be too tall for some situations, but they used to do the original tungsten version which was fine back in the day. I still feel at present it's as much to do with the 'modifying' and general 'bodging' nature in audio gear enthusiasts who have to modify everything to make it their own.
Just me. I know, I'm missing the point.

I don't like the look of under-slung weights on the Rega arms. I'm not sure if they do anything significant, although I would respect the fact that Roksan's (then) designer, Touraj Moghaddam felt the Zi mod for the Tabriz was worthwhile. Whether or not the idea works well on other arms is another matter.
I do like the OL and Riggle style stubs and weights, although I suspect the way the stub attaches is the most important factor. They make a huge differnce to an RB250. Moreso than rewiring but all the better if you do both. I have never heard a later/better Rega arm yet: only RB250/300. I won't touch the later cheapies with the plastic 3 point mount. I had one through my hands a few years ago and it just felt tacky to me. That said, Rega arms are a huge bargain and responsible for making many people happy either on their own decks or others.

Im finally back from my work trip to Ireland and have been playing with my new turntables. Bought a replacement styli for my Shure M75, Ortofon and pickering cartridges, a chap on the Lenco forum kindly loaned me a spare L75 headshell so now I have 3 turntables with 5 combinations, however the Lenco on has 2 of them.
So now the games begin, 3 turntables, 4 amps/receivers and 4 pairs of speakers to play around with and see if i can identify any improvements/differences.........Oh dear better get the missus some flowers and a bottle of plonk saturday night
