Stan Has just modified my DAC a few hours work Better RCA connectors Super clock and something to help clean the mains further Result Bass now goes really deep. In the past it always been articulate but lacked a bit of extension compared to Martins speakers. Not no more. Timing has improved and now hear subtle percussion that I did not know was in the mix. Everything so natural with a great sense of scale.

The DAC has been pushed quite a lot. Now very dynamic and natural

Nice one, stanleybI was admiring those phono sockets on your SEG. I'd like to buy a set.

Nice one, stanleyb I was admiring those phono sockets on your SEG. I'd like to buy a set. Sure. I can post you a set next week, plus the PCOCC wires that I designed ages ago for a high end audio lead, and still use to this day when I have to wire in case mounted RCA sockets.

Received the Dorado PS enhancer yesterday. Pleased with the result, a definite improvement in soundstage and PRAT.Nice solid case but I would have liked the 'up' position on the switch to be on in order to match the SEG but perhaps I am being picky. Got the bug again so will be going for the superclock upgrade soon I think, like to know more about the improvements it brings.

Got the bug again so will be going for the superclock upgrade soon I think, like to know more about the improvements it brings. A superclock, by dint of providing much less jitter in the frequency domain, improves the timing of rhythms, beats and bass lines. By reducing the mush around clocking, it improves micro-detail, too. The effect is one of deeper soundstage, finer detail and metronomic rhythms. You have to hear it to fully appreciate it.

I can't answer that directly, but people with very different systems are hearing what superclocks can do.

The biggest gains for me is in the micro detail and the bass extension adding a superclock

Cheers Martin, just a bit concerned that I might not experience the same level of improvement that you have as my kit is not as good as yours. Getting the same level of improvements is a false flag. No two system made up of different components could possibly sound the same. Getting the same number of improvements is a far better way to judge a successful upgrade. The other thing is that most of us in the audio field have either heard of or been a victim of diminishing returns. That's one reason why I am reluctant to modify a new unit that the owner has never had the time to listen to and get acquainted with. The main reason for that is because I don't do modifications that only produce diminishing returns. The difference has to be instantly recognizable. And by instant I mean something that is clearly audible or noticeable within seconds, and not more than a minute, of listening. I just don't have the patience to listen to a change for hours on end before coming to a conclusion one way or the other. The latest SEG mods are no different. The changes do make the DAC sound like a completely different and better product. Even if you are listening to it via two bookshelf speakers placed on either side of your PC monitor in a student flat. That's the sort of minimum expectations that can be placed on these upgrades. combined.

Its quite straightforward really. A stock SEG is ok for £200 performs more like a £500-600 unit in a reasonably sorted even handed system capable of demonstrating the changes wrought about by performing any upgrades. Even handed does not mean costly! it just means a well thought out system. Upgrades can make the unit perform more like a £2000 unit Providing you improve not just the clock (also regulation to the clock is as important as the clock itself) or the 15 Vdc upgrade or psu, or regulation improvements plus other changes to the unit. Any possible changes will be sonically visible dependent of whether the system can produce those changes, not just transparency here. You need to weigh this up against the cost of the unit verses spending more on a better performing unit in the initial purchase. imho. "He's a song for yer!" As Mr D Covernote would say! Why not have definitive statement on this with a dedicated thread giving all the possible updates to the unit compared against a stock one. Martin would have no problem hosting a definitive 'SEG off' where you guys could compare SEG's in various states of upgrade with a stock psu/ Stan's PSU / an Ebay £50 special. Then one or two units in upgrade, I suspect it would prove very popular and would attract a lot of interest and different variants. Howabout hiring the smaller room at the place where the spring gathering is held? as that room easily produces the best sounds there and is manageable. Not to much in £ to hire and everyone would be happy to pay an equal percentage keeping things fair. You could all agree a pre determined system so everything is on a totally even keel (that way you are just comparing the SEG's and not keep changing the system), having an SPL meter set up to make sure all listening is kept at the same volume. Pretty sure it will attract a lot of interest Stan could be on hand to offer advice and tips as well
