I cannot compare with other power supplies

I have tested the Supercap PSU on just about every possible combination of power supplies from unregulated 12V ones, all the way to the ones from the original Lurcher, MCRU, Mark Grant. The best was the custom built Lurcher PSU, even tipping the MCRU version that is the production version of the Lurcher. But the difference was so minute to my ears between the £30 Chinese one, and the most expensive Mark Grant one, once they were linked to the Supercap PSU.

Interesting thoughts there Stan, In your findings you feel that the Supercap PSU is only just bested by one of Nick's top supplies and then only by a small amount as to make inconsqenical and to make not worth the effort or outlay?

The post above reads that the Supercap itself is bettered by the LDA PSU, which I think is incorrect, or am I reading it wrong?
I took it to mean that you are just as well using a cheap Chinese psu to power the Supercap.
Chinese PSU - Supercap - SEG
is almost as good as.....
LDA PSU - Supercap - SEG
So save some cash and go the cheap PSU - Supercap route

Linear PSU - Supercap - SEG So save some cash and go the cheap PSU - Supercap route Spot on . I also tried the supercap with my Ankaka and unbranded 12V battery packs. And guess what: the combination was far better than the battery packs on their own. If you are into soundstage, then the supercap PSU fitted to the SEG is hard to beat. I also tried it with the TC-7520 etc that have the Gator PCB fitted. Even though those DACs are now several years old, they started to perform with even more life in them. So too did the TC-7510 with the MOD21 fitted.

Glad I waited. I did buy one of the £30 Chinese jobbies and I aesthetically it just looks correct, now I learn the money saved goes towards the Supercap PSU. Winner winner chicken dinner!!!!

I might get one of those Chinese jobbies for my Caiman II on AV duties.

So, does my standard SEG (with a 15v DIY PSU) need the supercap mods as well as the supercap PSU to perform at it's best ?

So, does my standard SEG (with a 15v DIY PSU) need the supercap mods as well as the supercap PSU to perform at it's best ? At its best, yes. But even without the supercap mod the SEG will so fastly better with the superap PSU. Did you build the DIY PSU yourself? If you did, then fitting the supercap mod would be a simple job.

Do you do a kit Stan, or can someone point me to the supercap parts needed to fit the SEG please ?

Have ordered a TC-7535 Caiman SEG with cap mod, and a Supercap power supply from Stan. Replacing a modded Bushmaster II. Could perhaps be my last DAC purchase. Recently bought ATC SCM19, Audience AU24sx RCAs, to match my Perreaux R200i amp.
Questions mostly for Martin T/John admin.
You both say this is really good, right? From what Im reading, is worth a shot. Otherwise looking at a Hegel, Schiit Gungir or Chord Hugo.
What are your suggestions for the 15V linear power supply, to best optimise the sound?

I am unable to compare to the other models you have mentioned but yes it is a good DAC. I did go against a Chord Mojo without the mods and was hard to split them apart. The mods take it to another level I now have mine heavily modified and it sounds stunning Even changing the internal fuse has taken things further so what I would say is the Seg good in standard but can really go up a few levels. Stan recommends a £45 to 50 Chinese eBay Linear power supply I went for one twice the price and used a good lead. I think Rexton got a £45 Linear power supply

Thanks John
What does 'heavily modified' entail. Is that over and above the SEG with cap mod, and a Supercap power supply

SR Red in mine. The linear PSU is all important to feed the supercap with the lowest noise most stable current. Buy the best one you can.
