Any chance you could find a used pair of Usher Be-10? You know what’s funny? There’s a pair of new BE-20s at a knock down price for sale near me; however the reason I sold my other speakers was the fear of the dog ruining them (I had some scary near misses). So I’m going to ‘suffer’ with these for the short term future. When he’s calmer, I’ll go for the best I can find then.

Interesting thread, but I think some posters are confusing cost with quality when discussing equipment in general, a Pi or an old MacMini such as I use, when playing un or losslessly compressed files can sound very good, when playing rubbish MP3s they can sound crap, regardless of how good the system they are feeding. Contra-wise, a superb TT/Arm/Cartridge combo feeding through to a pair of bad speakers not matched to the room, may well give you the best sound possible from that combo, but it will sound rubbish. The point is balance and synergy, whereas "Garbage in, garbage out" will always be true, the system needs to be considered as a synergistic whole, as Aristotle said "The whole is greater than the sum of its parts", who would have thought he was an audiophile 😊.

Mate of mine bought a pair of TDL Studio 1Ms from me, gave them to his daughter and her tom cat kept pissing/spraying up the back of one of them. Eventually in penetrated the MDF and the cabinet collapsed.

He was actually great around them and had never done anything to damage them. Having said that, I’ve still got a scar on my leg where he ran past me with a half chewed up got horn in his mouth. The amount of close shaves with the speakers piano black finish and his improvised shanks made me very nervous, one of those would ruin the resale value, so I preempted him.

Ouch Is he young or boisterous or both ? We have a dog that visits that is mental and now about 5. I'll make sure he doesn't come anywhere near my TADs from now on.

Possibly a follower of Gestalt? I cannot possibly see how one can argue with 'garbage in, garbage out'; it just may not be the whole story.

The last vet that saw him said in their notes “he’s exuberant, but we’ll trained”. He’s very well behaved 95% of the time. I hope the other 5% he grows out of. Is one of your pack the alpha dog?

Possibly a follower of Gestalt? I cannot possibly see how one can argue with 'garbage in, garbage out'; it just may not be the whole story. We've had some interesting discussions about that. GIGO is clear, but it can be taken too far, witness the number of massive front-end biased systems with expensive turntables driving a mediocre amp and shitty bookshelf speakers that we saw in the 1980s. My opinion is that it's all about balance, and minimising the bottleneck wherever that may be. It certainly can't be done on price so it's tricky getting a good balance depending on what your priorities are. Don't forget the room is part of your system, too.

Keep at it. Repetition seems to get them in the end. We maybe have an alpha. Depends on the situation. Choice of two but most of them will jump on instability - or what they think is unstable like 2 or more playing. All pack together if there is a suspected killer on the loose. EG Postie
