I've read some good reports on the Cambridge CXC CD transport.
Has anyone here had any personal experiences of it ?

Not that particular model, but I did have a supposedly top player from them. I borrowed an 840c CD player and I wasn't impressed at all. I have no idea where it got its rave reviews from. It was a horribly shrill and tacky thing that looked like it was a cheap Chinese mass-produced item. It broke soon after too. I hate their phono stages as well, so anything from that brand would never be for me. If you do want one, I'd say wait a year until it's heavily discounted to make way for its successor. I fondly remember the Stan Curtis products and it saddens me to see today's offerings bearing the same name.

I have one and it is excellent sounding. Like most modern players the draw feels a bit tacky but the important bits are good quality. It is better sounding than the VRDS transports I have had. Takes a while to burn in but gets better over time. Take out the cheapish six year warranty from Richer Sounds and you are covered if it goes tits up. Sound wise a bit of a bargain. Cambridge have been upping their game over the past few years though quite different from the old Curtis product which was very quirky. CD1 was the first decent sounding player I heard but it would cost a fortune today and technology has moved on.

I once bought a VRDS to try with and without external DAC - I was certainly impressed by the build quality everyone goes on about but I couldn't live with it sound wise and sold it on very quickly ...

I recently bought a manufacturer refurbished CXC online which replaced a heavily modded Marantz CD63 KI and have been really pleased with the results .It is used via coaxial into a Beresford Caiman SEG and has taken my system onto another level , I agree with earlier comments the cd drawer is fairly lightweight plastic as most budget/mid players are and is a little noisy but this is only a minor criticism . The sound has also developed over time and obviously does benefit from burn in for me I think it is a real bargain I looked at various players to use as transports inc older Pioneer Rega Apollo etc but glad I plumped for the Cambridge. Just wonder if it could improve yet further still by fitting a new clock from someone like Fidelity Audio ?

The CXC is performing well, still running it in.
Thing is though, I've upgraded my baffles recently, so the new and improved sound is a combination of two upgrades.
As an aside, those Denon monoblocks you have, how do you like them. Many (too many ) years ago I really lusted after a pair of those, but finances dictated otherwise.

I was over at Alan's listening to his system yesterday and they are stunning both visually and powerful. Beautiful sounding system and a bit of the green eyed monster from me as I also love this kit.

They are quite wonderful...ooodles of power at 160watts per side...My Darius' love the power they are sticking up them...and the Darius' stay well composed, even at rediculous volumes..... The CXC is performing well, still running it in.
