Im looking for something smalish, Plain & simple to play FLAC/WAV files through the amp without the use of a laptop. i do need a display telling me whats playing. Something like this but will play lossless files. Ive looked around & found a lot of Media players have loads of usesless [to me] things on board & the prices are just sometyhing i aint gonna entertain, certainly not for modern High tech electronics www.box-designs.com/main.php?prod=mediaboxs&cat=source&lang=enAny idea's?

If you want to go DIY, a Raspberry Pi with DAC of your choice all in a nice case (wooden ones are available) would do the job elegantly, with a tablet or your phone as your display.

There's a member over on AoS selling a Squeezebox Touch for a decent price. The Touch can work with SD cards, and supports WAV & FLAC playback natively. It can do a shed load of stuff you won't want, so you just have to ignore those bits you're not interested in.

The Touch is a great solution if you want it ready-made.

The Touch is a good thing for playing file based music.
Only trouble is that since Logitech stopped producing them they have become sought after and that has put the price up.
If one came my way at a "reasonable" price I'd buy it as a spare, in case mine ever conks out.
The one on "the other" forum was £150.00 but now open to offers.

Have you actually seen a Touch in real life ?
To me they are well made and perform the job admirably. The built in DAC is quite good as well, but my Bushmaster 2 is a tad better.
The internet radio is a bonus.

Actually the Touch is really nicely made and looks good up close. Quality bit of kit.

Yeh i really dont like the look of em.. So whats the old Sonos like? Remember this is an area i dont usually venture, Just that i cannot be arsed with things these days & Files seem the easiest way, However i dont want to involve a Laptop, but i do have an HRT Streamer i want to use instead of an inbuilt DAC's..

The touch is the biggest no brainer in hifi, piss easy to set up and the sound quality is superb, who cares what it looks like unless you just want to sit all day staring at it with no sound?
If that was the case why bother opening a thread asking for help?
I couldn't care less what my system looks like, I only care about how it sounds, the touch can be hidden anyway as I control mine using my phone even with it out of site.
The replacement is the sonore microrendu but I expect you won't want to pay more than 50p?

I do not like cheap looking things its as simple as that. What's up with that eh? Also do not want to use a mobile phone to control anything. Facia with whats playing is what i want. This is what gets my goat these days its always fanny about with little bits of stuff to use something.
I did open this thread asking for recommendations not a product being rammed down my throat when i clearly said i do not like the product.

You could investigate something like this Andre, but I suspect you won't like the look of it either. Also, it's based on the Raspberry Pi, which I think you didn't like either, however, it does have an onboard screen and remote control. File Player

Not that i did not like the raspberry but i could not see the logic in having to use a laptop when i could just plug my streamer into the laptop! but something along the lines of that but with buttons.

I had a vision years ago even before the Music Files fad came along where the media player could be controlled via a large on wall touch screen. Walk up to it & just select what you want via Wi-Fi hub that holds all the file base. But still i see nothing like this. The reason ive been holding out..

Going back to your own proposal, what's good or bad about the Pro-Ject?
