Another possibility: Do you have a CD or DVD player with a USB socket, or does your TV have net streaming capability? You might find you already have what you need to do the job.

The nearest thing to what you want is the Squeezebox Touch. I've just made an offer on the one on AoS - I wouldn't mind having a spare kicking around.

What about a Squeezebox Touch, that would meet your requirements.

Not necessarily, a memory stick or pre loaded hard drive will do. Did I mention that a Squeezebox Touch is what you want ?

Both Pioneer and Marantz do players that need no tv or mobile to work from and will play files

My Touch looks exactly the same now as when I got it.

Original Slim Devices & the Logitech look different to me?? None of the Slim Devices players do what you want, so why bring them up?

I said previously i dont want a touch up + you need a pooter. No you don't - the Touch is so-called because it has a touch screen and you can control it from the screen and also from the remote control provided. Plug a USB drive in and you're laughing. It really is perfect for your needs, Andr'e!

You're well and truly painted into the corner then, André. The mainstream manufacturers can't work outside of the box and create a player that has proper functionality, and the tech manufacturers who make stuff with proper functionality aren't looking to do what your specific requirements are either. The one device that ticks all the boxes from a user perspective isn't good enough because it hasn't been cased in hand carved Emmental and polished with sweat from a virgin's inner thigh.
This entire thread is a waste of bandwidth, but you knew it would be right from the off.
