Pfft. I'll take a drum solo over a lead guitar solo any day - bleugh! Bass solo is a different matter, though.

Try the bass solo at the start of this - you are forgiven for mistaking it for a guitar solo. For good measure theres a bit of keyboard solo and guitar solo too

How many drummers does it take to change a light bulb? None - they have a machine that does that now! How many folkies/metallers does it take to change a lightbulb? None, they just sit there in the darkness complaining how much better the old one was.

What's the difference between a drummer and Dr. Scholl's foot pads? Dr. Scholl's foot pads buck up the feet.

Dear dear this has become drumist ! Not really. None of the decent bands have crap drummers. If your drummer is crap then so is your band. We just like to keep the knuckle dragging Neanderthals in their place

I thought it was general knowledge that there would always be a 30 minute drum solo during any live gig, so that the rest of the band could go behind stage to watch Match of the Day.
You didn't have this option in the poll, so I voted "The bassist needs a pee".

The good ones are good, sometimes great and usually not too long The bad ones are truly awful, dismal and worse Can't argue with that. Just about every metal concert I went to in the 80's had a drum solo ... Most were pretty dull, but I saw Whitesnake fairly recently and Tommy Aldridge played a lot of his solo with his bare hands which was actually rather impressive ...

It all depends on the drummer.
Some are just trying to show their moves. Some are making music.
Drums are not just rhythm machines and have tones and tunes to play just like all the other instruments. When it comes to solos, my favourite is still Joe Morello playing with Dave Brubeck. Everything he does is for musical effect rather than just showing off. He has lots to show off about.

Can't remember Tony Williams doing a solo. Watching him play was just so wonderful I think he is my top drummer of all. Ginger is excellent but he goes on a bit

Tommy Aldridge was doing the bare hands bit when he was with Pat Travers a very long time ago. For my book Ian Paice is just about the best drummer out there - watching him do a one handed drum roll while playing the rest of the kit is a jaw dropping experience. Thinking about it, Nicko McBrain was pretty damned good with Pat Travers too - I much prefer what he was doing then to what he does with the wasters he's with now The most tedious drum solo I remember was by the 2 percussionists in The Allman Brothers Band - I saw them at Manchester Apollo. The solo must have been going on for something like 25 minutes before I left, and many members of the audience had had enough before that and buggered off home. I wonder to this day what happened after they'd finished the solo spot - did they expect the deafening silence they'd have received? It's a shame really, 'cos the rest of the gig was fantastic, even though the guitar amps blew up in the first song, and there was a long wait while the amps were stripped down and rebuilt.

Pointless - Can't think what other instrument would be give 25 minutes for a solo
