I'm rarely entertained by a drum solo. What about you?

no, not really... We only needed one or two in the late 1960s to show us what it was all about, now we know, move on. for those not around in the late 1960s then they are all available on recording to let you know what it was all about.. edit: there are a couple of categories that could be added to the poll.....how about: * to justify the drummers desire to show off * to give the audience a break, it's ok to nod off for the next 20 minutes

A duet-jam between drummer and bassist is infinitely more entertaining than an unaccompanied drummer. Apparently, drummers haven't worked this out yet.

Generaly switch off in a drum solo I could never understand why people like them so much

I can't see the point of a 15-20 minute drum solo. Same with 20 minute guitar solos. Just a musicians way of 'wanking off' whilst the singer goes for a lie down.

Drum solo's are very useful if testing out new bits of vinyl on your system, the intro to Painkiller by Judas Priest or Hot For Teacher by Van halen have been staples in my test discs for years, but I must admit that I do usually nip for a pint when a live drum solo happens at a gig.

The drummer has to be particularly inspired for it to be entertaining. I think Carl Palmer achieved it.

I suppose Neil Pearts drum solos are interesting and somewhat bearable. Necessary?

Many moons ago we were playing an outdoor gig when the electrics blew. The 35 minute drum solo that ensued (to keep the crowd amused...and distracted) enabled the rest of us to raid one of the bars in the dark. Many bottles were stuffed into guitar cases. Much after-gig drinking took place.

Hmm, as step-father of a drummer, and with a few drummer friends, I ought to start with the case for the defense, before I indulge my naturally naughty side
But just to get us going
What's the difference between a drummer and a drum machine? You only have to punch the information into the drum machine once.

Drum solos in rock and metal should be mandatory.

OK What did the drummer get on his IQ test? Drool.

The good ones are good, sometimes great and usually not too long
The bad ones are truly awful, dismal and worse

How many drummers does it take to change a light bulb? None - they have a machine that does that now!

What do you call someone who hangs out with musicians?
A drummer.

How do you know there's a drummer walking behind you? You can hear his knuckles scraping on the floor!
