6.48 is the probably the last update by the designer to BugHead as he will work on a new player for lower processing laptops and hopefully simpler to use but knowing the designer that is unlikely. 6.48 is Hiro swansong another step up in SQ. The soundstage has increased, Micro details and the speed is really good. Piano, harmonics (natural and artificial) drums, vocals, guitars and bass have all improved. For instance this is the first time ever I heard Dhaffer Youseff unique high pitched vocal technique sound natural on my system (not sure I ever heard this sound natural on high resolving system before). I let people know about the other player if it starts getting interesting I will miss my weekly, often daily updates it been a interesting ride.

Well Hiroyuki has been busy in the last few months. Latest update 7.27 and you can now add a SD Card to store music files which gives another increase in treble and mid adding refinement and detail (downfall takes even more time to load) but worth the increase in SQ I no idea where this player is compared to a top CD player now but still using the player it certainly beats the other memory players I heard for SQ

The SD card for temp storage and running the app is a good step forward. I'm now agonising over a 4gb vs 16gb SLC SD at 22 quid vs 49. 4gb will be fine for most music except for DSD and very hi res.
For those that don't know wavs take double their normal space when on the SD card under bughead.

Hi John, it'll be fine but is it a p-SLC type? I'm just starting to get to know about p-SLC for microSD and SLC for SD.

In recent months BugHead has been restricted to processors with AVX2 instructions. I finally gave in and purchased a custom assembled miniPC, fanless in a nifty small chassis. It's got an ASUS H110T motherboard with a Skylake i5, 960GB SSD. Vs my Ivy Bridge laptop i5 I find that Foobar sounds significantly better with the new kit. The combination of the new kit and the latest BugHead player has resulted in a really big step up in sound quality. I can't quantify how much of the improvement is the hardware and how much is due to the latest BugHead using AVX2 instructions. Both seem to be making a good contribution. My RPi3/Digi+ had been getting close to the sound of the older BugHead on my laptop. The latest BugHead on Skylake blows the RPi3 in the the weeds....BugHead/Skylake may even better my vinyl setup.

BH says it takes over 3 mins but completes is just ovet 1 min. I'm using SD but haven't properly checked whether it's necessary as I'm so entranced with how it's working.

I'm finally running my Musette DAC with BugHead on my still new Skylake fanless PC. Depth using BH 7.80 is easily on a par with my record decks, I believe this good NOS DAC helps but BugHead on a modern AVX2 capable processor is amazingly good. It's a shame BH is fairly demanding of hardware as it should be more prolific out there.

It's a shame bug head is the best windows based player I heard and free but for most not functional due to it's basic layout I would suggest everybody using windows mac or linux should try rewrite simple to use and makes a nice difference in sq that most people can benefit from

The UI and time to load is gruesome. I use Foobar for casual listening. BH really is challenging good vinyl playback....not like some digital which is good but different to vinyl...BH sounds like good vinyl - I know some will say it must be rubbish if it's like vinyl but I really do mean it as a compliment.

Just a thought worth trying out Bug Head with just in the blank screen mode and no stardust added to it. I really like this when using a SD Card Its pretty fast compaired to stardust 4 and a bit more lively in SQ in my system

I wish I could set Natural Sound to be the default to save me from setting it each time. I suppose it's all part of the ritual, rather like vinyl has it's own rituals with either make you mad or connect you more to the process and music.

BTW John, the SD card setup is easier with 7.80 as BH does not nee to be installed on it, just a single file which makes BH use the card when it spots it.
