Latest is 5.56 I will wait till I get a few thoughts on the latest before I decide to upgrade as really like 5.53 Sometimes updates come very quick I find to hard to keep up with it The best way to install updates is go into apps and open the bug head sub folder then press check for updates. This gives a clean update to the software If you want to keep a update but want to maintain your existing file so you can go back to it if you do not like just use make portable and put on a USB stick I really wish more people would try this as it is now taken my system to new heights and apart from the cost of a decent PC and DAC is truly astonishing value

5.56 will be the last update to BugHead as the developer does not feel he can get anymore from the player. I have to say its been quite a journey and I shall miss the regular updates Both 5.56 and 5.53 are very good 5.56 has a bit more detail and 5.53 is like listening to a great TT

One of the little tweaks that feels a bit OCD is rewrite data This is a free software that comes with Bug Head I am not sure exactly what it doing but seems to make a difference At the moment I will just share how to use this with Bug Head and the driver ASIO4ALL I am using something called All Core any Cures According (ACAC) to the author this will help even if you using different players and drivers First click ACAC and then run program
Repeat two more times Now go to rewrite data in adminstartor mode Once in click Bug Head Then click rewrite data It should like this once it has completed Now go into drivers Then ASIO4ALL and rewrite dats Although I find the procedure slow and cumbersome (takes about a min to complete) I use it on the start of a new playing session. For me the effort is worth it in terms of SQ but would totally get it as to time consuming for most people

Does the designer make any attempt at ease of use? That sounds like a nightmare of OCD proportions.

Totally agree Martin The designer has OCD But that OCD has meant he has really pushed the boat out in terms of sound quality. It has moved on a good few steps since you heard it. I just wished he simplify the interface now but he made the whole thing Open source so maybe another designer could take that on For me in my system I have a depth, richness in sound and detail that just so musical I might add Audiophile Otimizer to the mix when it comes out for Windows 10 that should take things even further which to be honest is hard to imagine At the moment it available for Windows server R2 2012 but I do not want to go down that route as a step to far out of my comfort zone in terms of set up even with the instructions.

Server 2012 R2 is based on W8.1 core, so you wouldn't be too out of your comfort zone. The price wouldn't be so comfortable, though.

Hi John, I'd try it myself if I could afford the right spec PC.
What does surprise me, in view of your glowing reports, is why the uptake is so low from members here.
Judging by what £ some members here seem to spend on cables and boutique ancillaries I would have thought investing in an adequate computer to run Bug-head was peanuts.

For me:
1) I couldn't care less about file-based playback 2) The Raspberry Pi through Caiman-II does a great job of streaming Spotify and internet radio 3) All PCs stay out of my listening room, where they belong 4) While I'm sure that Bug Head sounds good, it looks like a dog's dinner of a user interface

Agree about the interface the rest I differ but all personal preferences I can stream Spotify too but to be honest sound quality not that great

I only use Spotify for selecting discs to buy, but agreed it's all personal John and I know you have a great working system, having heard it at mine.

No idea where it at against a state of the art CD player as detail and musical flow have improved since the last time you heard it
