The originals are black, aluminium and have a white ceramic ball on top. The latest Ultra SS range are stainless steel and different shapes!

Upgrade the Isis ? In a word...... No I've heard the 2 top end TADs. They are better than the Isis for sure. If money was no consideration I could well have a full TAD set up, but it is ! A black Ayre eh ? Bet that sounds really good The big surprises for me were the bits making the system sing so well.. Auditions available Not surprised, shame though. Now then, Martin, that horrible CD Player of yours, bought time you upgraded isn't it and then let me take it off your hands

Yep - I have the originals. I found them better than the original Black Ravioli, Steve, but not as good as the new ones that Martin brought over.

You must come and hear it in situ. Is Basingstoke too far for you to drive?

The Cambridge / Beresford combo is settling in to the system nicely. I'm quite impressed how much better it sounds than the Naim NDX considering the massive price differences. I even convinced my Dad, who's a died in the wool Naim fan, although he obviously believes nothing could better his Naim CDS3

Sitting here listening to Mighty Sam McClain and the system is sounding rather marvellous. That frustrating harshness I had when listening on the NDX just isn't there anymore

I'm using the CXC with the latest Beresford Caiman SEG and it is extremely capable for the relatively modest cost. Outperforms players that cost me considerably more in real terms 20 or more years ago. Now CD doesn't sound an embarrassment even against my fairly pricey vinyl playback.

Yeah I think I might need to get a Caiman SEG shortly

The SEG is outstanding in mode 4.

The SEG is outstanding in mode 4. Yes that mode 4 alteration on the Caiman is quite an astonishing.

I bought and received some Granite place mats and coasters last week. I put the place mats on the CD Transport, Pre and Power amps and the coasters on the Beresford DAC and I have to say the difference they make is astounding for such a small amount of outlay (£34.00 all in) and what most people would probably think is snake oil at its worst.
The first thing I noticed is the sound is tighter, with more air around and possibly better separation of instruments.
Thanks very much to Mike and Martin for this wonderful recommendation.

Glad you tried them, Paul. To further improve them, try removing the small rubber feet and covering the underside with stickyback black felt. This couples the granite in a more air-tight manner to the top cover of the equipment and improves things even more. You will also get a Blue Peter badge for the proper use of felt in this manner
