Great to hear. Granite placemats or similar are a no brainier, not blocking air vents of course !
To prove how the mats sound before you buy felt get a piece of thin paper, place on the kit, turn the placemats upside down on the paper
The value for money is one of the very best going

I should have done it ages ago!! For the first time since buying the speakers, I took them off the Outriggers and placed them on their original spikes... now the difference it's made it ridiculous, everything has tightened up, the soundstage has widened and deepened and there's clearer seperation, why haven't I tried it before Now to look at decoupling options.

Think it is the sum of all the parts working here. All the other improvements lay the way open for what may have been a small mod turning into such a change. Best of all - FREE. !

Stan does it again! I placed an order for the Beresford Caiman SEG yesterday and am very pleased to confirm it arrived early this morning. The difference over the Caiman II is significant. I was already running the Caiman II in Mode 3 and with an Anker battery and both of those aspects had made a noted difference. I plugged the Caiman SEG in mode 3 and cold straight out of the box, I instantly heard a difference, everything sounds bigger (not louder), the bass has tightened up, and is deeper, the sound stage has increased in size and the midrange has become smoother and easier to listen to, without losing any its detail. In fact, there is even more detail with this new DAC. What a superb DAC and exceptional turnaround time and service from, stanleyb, thank you.

Whenever you lot get the upgrade bug, before spending any money, go back to cheap headphones or a portable radio for a while (few weeks) if you can't do without music. I promise you that when you return to your stereo it'll sound amazing Stan made a huge thing with the new DACs that he's done his utmost to isolate the power supply with extra smoothing/filtering and so on. Hopefully, fancy-foo batteries won't make a difference and aren't lead-acid batteries supposed to be rather noisy in actuality and not a 'pure' DC feed? Just asking like...

Not my experience Dave with regards to noise from batteries with the seq, quite the reverse I am quite at ease listening to a portable radio too

Like John, I’m happy to listen to whatever, but obviously prefer the main hifi and battery’s do appear to improve the Beresford DACs which is why I guess Stan recommends their use.

I know Stan has gone to a great deal of trouble designing a perfect PSU for his DACs but I hope he doesn't mind too much when I say that battery power really does still make a remarkable difference.

I have gone for a radical change recently. As a lot of you are aware, I hadn't been happy with my system for quite some time, finding the combination of my Exposure amplification with the my Focal speakers too bright, and finding myself turning the system down quickly and usually struggling to have more than 20 mins listening before wanting to turn it off and walk away. I got in touch with a number of hifi dealers, who recommended anything from Musical Fidelity, to Naim to Linn, to Arcam amplification, with none appealing. A couple of years ago, I had borrowed a Belles amp from Tony at Coherent Systems, and liked it, but the price at the time was prohibitive. Anyway, I went along to the Bristol show this year, and had a further chat with Tony whilst I was there. He gave me a few recommendations, and then I arranged for him to come over for the afternoon a couple of weeks ago with a few different bits to try out. He also mentioned he had a new Belles amp available that was at a much more interesting and achievable price point, that might work with the Focal's. Tony brought over a Belles Aria amplifier, Coherent interconnects, power and speaker cables and a NovaFidelity streamer. But before we tried plugging anything in, he made a number of setup locations recommendations, some that I was able to try and made a substantial difference. We tried the Belles amp, and honest, I thought it was a lot better than the Exposures cold, when he first plugged it in. It had so much more authority. The only problem was that the Belles amp was too deep for the existing rack I had, so I had a quandary. I'd pretty quickly decided that the amp was a must have, so I realised I'd have to change the rack, so I asked Tony if he had anything that would suit, he recommended a Creaktiv rack. Next we tried out the cables. Now I am not/wasn't totally sold on the difference cables could make, but wow, the interconnect I tried, was a bigger jump up in performance than the Belles amps had been to my ears. We then followed it up with the power cables, which again made a substantial difference, followed finally by the speaker cable which probably made the most difference. Due to limitations of my available budget, I chose: Belles Aria integrated amplifier Coherent 5D Interconnect Creaktiv Trend 1 rack Tony went away, and to his credit, came back to me with suggestions on saving money, for instance, I managed to get both the amp and rack ex demo, how many other Hifi deals would go that extra mile? The system arrived over the weekend, again, Tony went the extra mile by double checking the wiring on my power socket as I had installed a new unswitched socket. The difference is astounding, the sound is so much warmer and easier on the ear than it was before, the music just flows freely. I listened with the TQ cables initially and then added the Coherent and it literally sounded like I had removed a large duvet from in front of the speakers, there is so much detail that wasn't present before, and the bass is much more pronounced and clear. When I turn the volume up, there is none of the horrible fatigue sound that I used to get, where I guess the Exposure's were struggling to drive the Focal's correctly. Amazing, seriously amazing. I am finding myself wanting to turn it up more and more, and I can listen for extended periods without finding I want to walk away, despite some of the dross you'd argue I listen to What's even better is I came in under budget, so I am doubly happy. Pic of the system:

Great outcome, Paul, and I'm so glad that you kept the Focals and made them work for you. There is something about their coherence (remember I used to have JM Lab Mezzo Utopias) that really makes for a great musical experience.

Congratulations Paul; sounds like a great outcome for you. I experienced a similar demo (only with the cables) with Tony and it was... educational lol.
Do you find the amp has the power to drive your Focals as loud as you want without strain?
