Hi Paul, long time since I read this thread and I can see you have been on quite a journey since I visited you. Great to hear that you may now (finally?) have found audio nirvana. I must give that Yello track a listen. I seem to remember that Toy was very popular at the ASBO I attended. The Habanera - Yello is a good one too IMO. I had the vinyl album with this track on and it was one of the best recorded vinyl tracks I have ever heard. Hi Rob, Yes the system has moved on dramatically since you last heard it, I think I still had the Epos speakers back then? Yello are excellent, I particularly like Toy, Touch and The Eye albums. I will try out The Habanera too. You are more than welcome to pop over and hear how far the system has moved on if you are in the neighbourhood Paul.

Congrats, Paul - my own experience and opinion is that Quadral speakers are way more musical than Focal -- unless you spend your mortgage on some high end Focal Utopias with beryllium tweeters, now some of those were very special. Remembering to put aside additional funds required for the forklift truck needed to move them. But down-to-earth Focals have always been about "impressive" rather than "music" for me. I couldn't bear to listen to most Focals for more than a few minutes. Quadrals, I've heard a few at shows and reviewed one model in depth - all have impressed me. Nice one. My sentiments exactly, they are so very musical. The Focal's were fine but there was something about them that made listening to them for extended periods difficult for me. I know others own and love their Focal's but for me they were a bit too much.

Then a couple of months ago my 2 year old son decided it would be a good idea to put his finger through one of the Beryllium tweeters. IDK why but this made me laugh 😂 I think it’s because I can just envision it happening with my little boy too... I’m glad it worked out well in the end though.

There is something about dome tweeters that is totally irresistible to toddlers. They just have to poke them.
Protect or despair!

So, are you going to build some sort of childproof moat around the new speakers then Paul?

So, are you going to build some sort of childproof moat around the new speakers then Paul? Don’t. That’s still my biggest concern; I built the Great Wall around my whole system apart from the top level, which is of course where my preamp and speakers are kept. I’m not really sure what to do about it, live with the risk or...?

I didn't take any special measures with my 3 yr old. But I was around a lot, so could stop her on the rare occasions that she did get a little too handsy with things. But I was happy to let her explore a little - just meant I had some fingerprints to wipe off, nothing serious. And now she doesn't really notice it. I think if I'd put up barriers etc it just would have made it more tantalising for her. I always kept the grilles on the speakers though! It's more of a concern when her little friends come over, but I've found that the biggest draw is the spectrum analyser - must be the lights! - and this distracts them from the proper stuff.

I was running a leak stereo 20 with all exposed valves, so I moved all the hifi into an ikea sideboard with glass doors. I'm sure it's not the best hifi rack but it has stopped my 3yr old and 1yr old girls from burning their fingers.
I also got some outriggers for my narrow floors standing speakers and they have been great my 1yr old is now pulling herself up on everything to walk. Without the outriggers she would have pushed the speakers over by now.
If I didn't have valves I probably would have managed without an enclosed rack, but I didn't want to risk burnt fingers and damaged original mullard valves.

If I am in the area would love to hear it. Yes, you had the Epos speakers then. Having seen the quality of the stuff you have nowit makes mine look like cast offs from Steptoe's yard

I am finding myself enjoying listening to my system so much more since I have got these speakers. To the point where I am looking for opportunities to listen.
On Friday night, wifey was out for the evening, so after putting the Leo to bed, I decided to have an music evening. I listened to so many different albums and tracks, it was fantastic.
