PC 4 is, supposedly, the most jazzy, from what I've read, and Rachmaninov openly admitted to being influenced by American Jazz music Ah, so the Kocsis approach is starting to make a lot more sense! Thanks for that Paul and the recordings, neither of which I'm familiar with.

Yes lots of very good PC2's but many of them take a similar approach which is why I find the Kocsis so interesting...

When it comes to the Rachmaninov Piano Concertos I don't look much further than the two Ashkenazy sets with Previn and Haitink. I do have a few other individual recordings of interest. So I was wondering about casting the net wider and courtesy of Mr Hurwitz I have found Zoltan Kocsis with Edo de Waart and the SF Symphony - DH calls these "reference recordings". I have started with PC 2 and it's so far very idiosyncratic - a very brisk intro indeed ... I'm also noting some really jazz influenced playing and phrasing with those early wistful, soul searching interludes. Certainly unlike anything I have heard before! www.theguardian.com/music/2016/nov/11/zoltan-kocsis-obituary

Interesting. I was told online to take the modem to local store for support. I may be wasting my time then. I'll try it once if required and that's it. Given what I have read on Three Community boards I'm not going to phone them again or do a web chat - hours of your life wasted for nothing ... It's looking very unlikely I will keep it as it can't hold onto the 5g signal with any reliability. That wouldn't be so much of an issue if the 4g had sensible speeds but it just crawls ...

It's the first time WiFi has been quicker than wired connection here!
A real headache of a day. I'm going to see how it runs tomorrow. Any losing of 5g signal and I will be going with router to local Three store - if they can't help I will cancel. Thankfully I am only on a 30 day contract!

In addition to variable speeds, the worst thing is when it loses the 5g signal and goes to 3g / 4g which is completely unusable.
I'm now very pessimistic it's going to work out for me. Reliability is key.

For the streamer I bought Amazon Brand Eono Cat 8 - nicely finished, fully shielded, decent looking plugs, strain relief, braided cable etc £4.99. Ideal for test purposes.

Wi-fi and wired speeds are both up and down.
Wi-fi goes up to around 240mb on both phones. Nice.
Wired connection to the boy's PC around 100mb which is surprisingly low. New CAT 8 cable arrives tonight ...

Lol. I am probably the only person on TAS who loves classical ballet. Going to the Royal Opera House Covent Garden is one of life's great pleasures for me. Do your worst ... Think it was Royal Opera House where I saw Van Der Graaf and Gentle Giant, separate occasions, possibly others Nice place Yes it's beautiful and recently hospitality areas made bigger and better. Not familiar with those ballets you mention though ...

Speed stability is questionable at present.
I'm now getting about 80mb over WiFi and 100mb on my son's ethernet. Got a better spec network cable arriving later.
The one thing I will say about Sky is that the speeds were much more consistent.

I think it's great that nearly all the shows are sold out already! Just goes to show what can be achieved with creativity and risk taking.

DPD delivered my Three 5g hub at 8am this morning so all good there.
A few minutes to unpack and install the SIM card. The hubs like to be on window sills so I try my preferred one in the living room. It finds the network around 30secs after power on. Speed test shows 0.46mb - oh crap! Move to the other window sill - after trying different options of height and location I settle on one that gives 180mb. You really need to try all siting options. My son has a newer phone and gets around 240mb. Sky gives around 70mb. Let's see how it goes - I have about 10 days before I need to cancel Sky.

Apple have bought the wonderful BIS Records. Somehow I don't think this is good news with Apple's obsession with tech like Spatial Audio. I wonder what this means for the BIS catalogue currently on multiple streaming platforms?

If you're an Agatha Christie fan I can highly recommend Kenneth Branagh's Death on the Nile from 2022. So much better than 'Orient Express' this one makes the best of the uber stylish sets and locations. He even shot it on 65mm but after the Amazon UHD compression that doesn't mean much ...Fantastic ensemble cast, it's proper old school lavish entertainment. My only criticism is that it's occasionally a bit heavy handed with the VFX.
