I understand that Teflon is the best cable shroud to use, but don't know who sells it.

Never used any insulation, and that included a handful of speaker moves / cable rubbing. The coating is pretty durable. As you've discovered it is rather springy and this is the only reason I changed to a more flexible multi-strand cable better able to go round corners without nailing it into place ! I've not had that many expensive cables (van den hil, QED silver, home baked cat5, transformer wire and a really thick £60/ metre pair that I can't remember the name of) and have only noticed very small differences. As has been said they may all sound different, but not necessarily better - it's a question of personal choice as to the 'sound' they make. I'm satisfied that far bigger changes can be had elsewhere, with components, decent mains supply, software tweaks (I'm all digital) etc.
