I was given a freebie Toshiba Encore 7" Windows tablet at a Microsoft seminar yesterday. Despite my doubts, it's a usable size between my Nokia 930 phone and full size Microsoft Surface 2 tablet.
It's just large enough to type on comfortably, is nice and fast (Intel Atom quad core), comes with 64GB storage - more than enough - and can accept a microSD card for even more. I installed Office365 to make it usable and am sitting typing on it while controlling my RPi running Volumio. For £180 (yes, even better free) it's a cool bit of technology.

Just saw a nice iPad in the supermarket today.
Couldn't afford it.
Passed by on the other side of the aisle. Wouldn't buy any other make 'cos they all run the wrong OS.

How very tasteful Apple hater gonna hate is I believe a current expression. Good taste is only given to the few

Apple hater is a term thrown at people with inexplicable bias for no good reason. I have very good reasons, through experience of working with them, of disliking iOS and MacOS

Apple hater is a term thrown at people with inexplicable bias for no good reason. I have very good reasons, through experience of working with them, of disliking iOS and MacOS It all seems down to personality. My nephew and everyone else I know who works in systems using Macs and PCs all run Macs themselves. I spit every time I have to use Windoze. Its good enough for purpose but that is just not good enough for me. When choosing woodworking tools, price has nothing to do with it. Its how the tool responds in use, how easy it is to achieve the required result and how good it looks as a final point. The Mac ticks all those boxes when it comes to a computer - for me and people like me that is. I gave up feeling sorry for PC users years ago.

The above is exactly how I feel about Windows - it ticks all my boxes

I gave up feeling sorry for PC users years ago. Now, now Gordon, that kind of remark just makes you sound as bad as your sneer at 'the Apple haters'. Each to their own fella, we all have reasons for liking one or the other

Each to their own fella, we all have reasons for liking one or the other Twern't intended as a sneer honest . Merely an admission that at one time, I did indeed wonder how Windoze users could stand it. But it very much depends in this life, what we come across first. Things become the norm to us and trying new stuff often seems not as good as that to which we are used. I have used both platforms and know very well that Windows has come a long way (still hasn't caught up of course - you can't expect me to admit that ) I would point out that it was Martin who raised the sick note about an Apple device. So he started it - so there

Oof! What about "Wouldn't buy any other make 'cos they all run the wrong OS." But that was polite and true for me. I didn't feel the need to have a smiley throwing up

I don't discriminate. I hate all OS's! I have a nice notepad and pencil you can have and I'll throw in a free calculator. We have become slaves to the machine.

Given that analogue is on the resurgence, will Sir be requiring an abacus to go with that?

I'd like one of those big mechanical calculators with the handle to pull.

In my first job there were 2 comptometers and lovely lady operators. (I went out with one but that's another story)
In use it looked like they were randomly pressing keys

I'd like one of those big mechanical calculators with the handle to pull. In my first job after college, I had one of those - a desktop adding machine. A big rotary handle on the righthand side and a paper roll print-out like a till receipt! It's not that it was all that much of a long time ago, just that the organisation were still operating much the same as they had been in the 1950s
