And no, I've never been flooded !
Looks like a great forum and really helpful to have something with such a UK focus.
Been messing around with Hi Fi since my teens but always felt that rooms and quality of recordings, more than kit, are the main determinants of enjoyment. Like many here I suspect I don't have the luxury of a 'listening room' but have to accommodate stuff into the lunge . . . one day !
Musical tastes ? My other half tells me I have none, although then again she did make me buy a Ting Tings CD. No, raised on classical, then prog rock, and now blues, jazz, and just about anything except rap. However I doubt I'd even understand what the new genres even were, let alone if I liked them. I can take a stab at 'trance' as I'm sure there's lots of that down here around Glastonbury.
Anyway, I've long been a fan of planar speakers which have been my mainstay for years and now run the following system;
Vortexbox server with FLAC music files
Squeezebox Touch (modified software makes a big difference)
Lyngdorf digital amps with active crossover and Room Perfect
Lyngdorf corner woofers (each with 2x10" lightweight paper cone drivers)
Final 400i electrostatic panels (crossed over at 400Hz so they don't see much bass)
History:
Leak Delta 30, Leak 250s, Goldring GL75 (wish I still had that !)
Goodmans Module 90
Cambridge A55 amp with Monitor Audio MA4s
Rega Planar 2
Linn Sondex LP12
NVA 70s and pre amp
Quad 57s (don't try running these with NVA !)
Magneplanar 2.5R ribbons
Plinius SA50 and preamp
Cadence electrostatic hybrids (awful)
Unnamed Chinese KT88 tube amp
Audiostatic Wings with Final S200 sub (most transparent speaker I've ever owned)
Martin Logan Prodigies
Parasound JVC1 amps
Lyngdorf TDAi2200 and SDA2175 amps (current)
Perigee FK1 hybrid ribbons (great)
Lyngdorf W210 corner woofers (current)
Final 400i electrostatics (with upgraded panels) (current)
Computer based source via Squeezebox Touch (current)
Several pairs of Genexxa LX5s running from Kingrex and Trends T class amps (current)
Tannoy Chatsworths with HPD12s (great dynamics but replaced surrounds and sold to Japan)
Now thinking open baffles to get more dynamic slam ?
