I don't know if Volumio does video, Mike. If you want to access Youtube video content then a Chromecast unit does the job superbly well. I have one of those hanging out of the back of the TV, and I can summon up BBC iPlayer and Youtube video content from my Smartphone. The Chromecast goes and pulls the content in itself - the Smartphone is just used as a control device. If I want to play video content from my phone it does that too, but it streams from the phone to the Chromecast. I think Amazon video works in a similar fashion - you need to view the content using the Google Chrome web browser, and point the stream at the Chromecast, which means you need keep your laptop active. You should be able to continue the stream by closing the lid, but you'll need to adjust a few settings in Windoze first. Nope. See Martin's comment below. I was investigating driving the Amazon Firestick remotely. (Forget where I got too !) One odd thing. While in other tabs on the laptop the music stops, go to Volumio and it has moved to the next item... puzzled

Hi Mike You're running the latest distro of Volumio, version 2.296. Yes, it's headless as in your laptop or iPad just controls the Pi, it's the Pi that fetches the music. The improvement on battery power doesn't surprise me, it's happened every time for me. From memory, you can change the background from Settings/Theme. No you cannot drive the TV from HDMI, all you'd see is the Linux boot sequence. Volumio is an audio streamer only. Thanks Martin, thought I was pushing it

One odd thing. While in other tabs on the laptop the music stops, go to Volumio and it has moved to the next item... puzzled I take it you've tried to access it via a streaming service? It happens sometimes. The next file in line isn't available to play, so it stops. Some of the files reside on someone's machine, as opposed to the main servers. It usually occurs with more obscure material.

Thanks. This is on YouTube and I have played it through before. The whole piece is 2 hours and I was around 30 or 40 minutes in.

YouTube is much more variable than Spotify, it can take an age to start certain clips and others can fail midway through. It's not Volumio but the service itself and even your local neighbourhood fibre contention can play a part.

I'll look for a handle on this. Has played fine before running in the background. Difficult to run in the background and keep an eye as well though

Unexpected result from a cheap upgrade.
Picked up another Tacima SC5723. Quick test says it works. Even with one existing and all the other similar kit. Butthole Surfers - Weird Revolution up next. The extra amount of detail and bass took me by surprise. Need to check again tomorrow.
What may make the difference is this Tacima is right next to the kit and main socket. Very nice result if my ears are to be believed.

More listening.....
Rainer -Alpaca Lips Acoustic guitar and his voice. More there than I have heard before. That rumble in the background on one track must be a V8 Wolfgang Press - Funky Little Demons Electronic with voice. More detail and heavier bass. Jan Hammer - Oh Yeah! Jazz fusion like. Wonderful. More separation, clarity
More punch in the middle range as well for all of them. Madness
This cannot be all down to the single Tacima. Must be the sum of the parts or the sequence they are plugged in around the room surely ?
Scared to touch anything in case I lose this sound. Have gulleys and gutters to clear so will have to come back later

These plug-in filters work in parallel around the house, reducing noise generated inside the house and brought in from outside. Try different brands, which all focus on certain parts of the noise spectrum. Tacima, Isotek, Kemp, Russ Andrews, Vertex all good working as a mix.

I have Tacima, Russ Andrews and a couple of PS Audio noise harvesters now.
Did you find one made a bigger difference ?

Oh yes, I have PS Audio Harvesters, too. No, I think they all do a good job and work well together.
The Kemp causes a bit more earth leakage than the others as it's a delta filter and can cause a sensitive RCB to trip.

The Tacima is great VFM
Kemp is out for me then. My RCB trips for almost no reason

Try an Isotek or two.

Isotek on my list. Slight problem though I have run out of usable sockets, some behind furniture, flush to the socket Do they work if in another room and therefore for me on a separate circuit ?

Best to keep to the same circuit. Otherwise, elsewhere in the house will still act to reduce noise created there.

Ok. Need to find out where the hidden sockets are and what I can do

The first dem, Meridian I remember very well the stunning active M10s. There was volume available that sliced the top of your head off, cleanly My wife has not been well recently and so I have had a lot of time to surf and came across this old post. I remember going to a show at Heathrow in the 90s and hearing an active Meridian system. They were playing Dangerous - Michael Jackson and the dynamics and bass slam were jaw-dropping. Very impressive, but maybe tiring long-term, and the soundstage was not particularly good, although that could have been the room. And yes...they shouldn't have been afraid to turn it down. I have just remembered that worst dem I ever attended was at the very first What Hifi LIVE event in about 1993. They had a log cabin type thing where they had an Audiolab based system (I remember 4 M Monoblocks) and Monitor Audio floorstanders. They played some so-so music and then decided that "America - What Time is Love - KLF" would perhaps wake people up. If you know this torture track it is probably best played with a duvet over the speakers....however off they went at PA sound levels and after about a minute they cleared the room....Horrendous.

About a week later the Linn/Naim system saw it off, at much lower volume

Another sound quality step up
Volume control giving noise when altered so Tony kindly popped in to have a look. Power off. Belles Pre Amp lid off, two valves taken out and points cleaned. IEC power and RCA sockets cleaned. Imagination or did it sound better immediately ?
Check with Robert Palmer's Honey Bee which we played a couple of days back. Yes. More detail, nicer sound.
I shall be cleaning my sockets in future. Little work, no cost and great improvement in sound
