Tricky one.
Did KWC felt that the child wasn't even attempting not to cough, due to immaturity? If so, I can sympathise with her. Maybe the child was too young to bring along.
It must be f***ing annoying for a soloist.

As I said in another thread, I have a lot of sympathy for the soloist and little empathy with people who make no attempt to be quiet or respectful during a performance.

Oh boy
living with a class 1 diva, I am only too aware how "serious" music can get. Sue is really prickly about the sanctity of a performance. To the point is affects her ability to perform. She is not really comfortable with "cocktail music" - and I don't think could do it. If she is singing, she expects people to listen.
You can bet there were two sides to the story, but whether 12 or 112 if you have the misfortune to be unable to control the noise you make in a classical concert, albeit due to health, you should consider the feelings of others and absent yourself. That is just basic manners really.

I used to get into arguments with noisy buggers at the cinema. I was there to see the film not listen to them munching/coughing/chatting/snogging etc etc. How much more rude is it to behave like that when there are real, live people up there providing the entertainment.
I used to take cough sweets to concerts and offer one to persistent coughers. I would have preferred the garrote.

My worst experience of people chatting during a performance was watching the late and great Tommy Tedesco at the jazz cafe it was so bad I could not watch the second half

Even the BBC have picked up on this now ... www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-30327567The audience was very quiet during the performance itself and they saved their coughing for in between movements. The problem here was that after the 'extended' coughing break, KWC waited for everyone to finish and was just about to start up again when she was distracted by this child ... If the child wasn't able to control themselves, the parents should have quickly whisked them out of the hall to avoid any issues IMO.
