Guys, I'll let you know whether or not to see Romulus? Thanks.
Kind of surprised you didn't like Spaeny, Tim. There was a moment where she was speaking to somebody and it was real, seemingly. It made me think that actors are not generating facial expressions. They are generating a feeling within them which then auto automatically triggers the facial expression.

I'm not entirely sure what it is about her I don't get on with, but I did feel her character was a little contrived in the film and not really that necessary, or could have been written a different way? But I'm being uber picky in what is overall an outstanding bit of cinema.
Maybe it's an aftertaste from Priscilla, as that's the first time I've come across her and I didn't think that was a good film at all - but I'm not big on biopics either.

Yes I'm not one for biopics much either but I believed in Cailee Spaeny's character in this film. First time I have come across her.
The only thing that spoilt my enjoyment was two Poundland bellends having a picnic, munching and crunching their way through of huge plastic bags of cheap snacks throughout the entire film, they never stopped. How I kept calm I don't know!

Not sure if it's ever been discussed but as a major Weyland Yutani universe fan I often see comments on social media whenever a new film is released about how terrible it will be/was. Same with Godzilla films.
The take I've finally nestled into comfortably is that I'd much rather be around now when these projects are still being attempted then in the days when there are no more Predator or Alien or Godzilla films and they are just a thing of the past.
I recently saw the newest Kong x Godzilla film. It is magical. So different than previous efforts. Truly. Just wonderful. It is the Thor: Ragnarok of the Kong/Godzilla universe.

I just could not spend cinema money on something I know I would dislike. I don't understand the reference as I haven't seen that either. Now, SF films like Arrival and Annihilation really resonated with me.

Sorry Martin, I'm afraid that your claim is false. I believe that you believe you would dislike it. Absolutely.
But knowing it... now that's where it gets tricky.

Well at 65 years of age, some things you just know you're going to dislike. I've walked out of enough Marvel films (Thor: R being one of them) to know I'm totally done with them, same for Godzilla x y z Kong films, or whatever they dream up to call the next half dozen. Godzilla Minus One however was a very rare exception, for $10 million that was a really good film. As for the day when no more Predator, Alien or Godzilla films exist?, oh boy, please let that be soon ! But, as they say, each to thier own

...Tim, would you mind stating at what point in Thor: Ragnarok did you walk out?

I also thought Thor: Ragnarok was awful There is only one Avengers film I like IW the rest are awful. Some of the Batman movies are good, most match the 60s cheese of rubber exploding sharks Getting these types of films with a bit of depth is rare.

This is getting metaphysical. I not only believe that I wouldn't like any film with the words Kong or Godzilla in it, I can cast-iron guarantee that I actually wouldn't like it, too. And no, I'm not willing to put it to the test as there are insufficient hours left in the rest of my life

It's like "Schrödinger's cat - The Movie". I've never seen a review!

It is heartening to see this thread transcend the transient mundanity of celluloid matter into the important questions of life itself.

Despite the general anti-Marvel sentiment that pervades this forum, I want to see this. Deadpool is the " series/franchise" where Marvel takes the piss out of Marvel, Disney, (who now own Marvel), and I love it. Hugh Jackman, Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, Rob Delaney, Leslie Uggams, Matthew Macfadyen, plus Jennifer Garner and Chris Hemsworth also making appearances, not to mention Peggy the dog. What's not to like?

...Tim, would you mind stating at what point in Thor: Ragnarok did you walk out? Hmm tricky, it being such a long time ago, as I saw it at the cinema - I seem to remember a point where they went off into space or something, not long after meeting Cate Blanchett. Probably about half an hour in, as I do remember I gave it a good go. I normally have a 15 minute cut off . . . if I'm not invested by then I usually walk.
I haven't walked out of a film for years though, but I don't watch many Hollywood or mainstream films anymore. Actually the last film I walked out of was Belfast, before that it would have been in 2019 when I gave up my Cineworld card. In the days of watching mainly mainstream movies with my Unlimited pass I'd normally walk out of films about once a week, but I saw a lot of films then, many more than now. I probably only average about 2 or 3 a week at the cinema these days. . . . What's not to like? Now this one's a lot, lot easier . . . Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds, can't think of anything I've seen either of them in that I've enjoyed, maybe Prisoners for Jackman? I find Ryan Reynolds pretty annoying, but that's probably just his characters not him personally. But let's be honest I wouldn't expect the average Marvel fan to enjoy art-house or foreign language films and vice versa, they're not really interchangeable tastes IMO. Even more so for someone like me who rarely engages with anything mainstream anymore.
I'm a lot more selective about what I watch these days and I can normally be fairly certain if I'm going to enjoy it too.

Actually the last film I walked out of was Belfast I disliked it, too. I stuck with it to the end. Really wasn't worth it.

To be fair I wouldn't say it was a bad film Jules, just not my type of film, or what I was expecting. I thought I was going to see a gritty, thought provoking realistic drama about NI, with the added bonus of being filmed in B&W.
What I got was a glossy, lightweight, bright and breezy, semi-musical fairytale, that was about as gritty as triple filtered olive oil. For it's target audience it was probably just what they wanted.
