Ordered on Amazon, thank you Paul. I loved The Killing and the cast looks excellent. It reminded me a bit of those seventies " kitchen sink" dramas. It captured the mood of the era very well as I remember. Of course, it helps that I don'rt think Timothy Spall has made a bad TV show, or film, in his life.

The new West Side Story is an absolutely wonderful film and I say that as a huge fan of the original.
Spielberg has captured all the rich colour and atmosphere of the original and by shooting on film it has such an authentic texture, look and feel. The attention to detail is immaculate as are his striking compositions which are brought to life with some of the best cinematography and lighting I have seen for a long, long time by Spielberg's regular collaborator, Janusz Kaminski. In a way it serves a reminder of what we have lost in the transition from celluloid to HD video.
Performances are superb throughout, no weak links at all. A real joy to see Rita Moreno given a good part to which she brings such an affecting empathy. So many showstopper scenes and Spielberg has a completely iron grip over proceedings, always so confidently moving the camera with great intent and seamlessly weaving the story together towards the inevitable conclusion. I couldn't ask for more from a remake for which the stellar original set such a high bar.

Last night I watched Toto - Live In Poland (2013) which is free on Amazon Prime. It really captures Toto at their best and I had an absolute blast watching this. What a live band they are - I never get bored of listening to Steve Lukather doing his thing but to be fair, every member of the band is a quite exceptional musician and they are just such a tight unit. Legendary session player Nathan East is on bass. This was their 35th Anniversary tour and I was lucky enough to see them at the Royal Albert Hall for the 40th Anniversary show which is one of my favourite concert memories ever.

I prefer Steve doing his solo stuff. Not as commercial, but I admit I enjoyed seeing Toto live. They played a few tracks off the Dune album, which shows how long ago that was.

I'm not particularly keen on his solo albums, I don't come back to them.

Glad you like it too Brian. Big shame we may never see them touring like this again but I'm grateful I took the chance to see them when I did.

I'm not particularly keen on his solo albums, I don't come back to them. More about him playing burning guitar live rather than it being more song based I don't listen to his solo albums either

Here's an oldie for you. 1953 If you need a nostalgic (pre most of us) laugh. Even his car is riot, and there's an excellent tennis scene too. Current top French player, Ugo Umbert uses the same serve technique!

I've just sourced and ordered the 3D Blu-ray version of the new Dune movie. It was carefully hidden behind a blurb that stated it was in Spanish and German only, but a closer examination of the case (and several reviews) revealed 5:1 English soundtrack too. Amazon should have it to me, from Germany, on Monday.

Munich: The Edge of War
Pretty good depiction of events leading up to WW2 with an overall excellent cast, especially Jeremy Irons as Chamberlain and a very frosty performance by Ulrich Matthes as Hitler. A few lapses in believability but some real heart in mouth moments and a feeling of impending doom as we all know the outcome. Based on the novel by Robert Harris.

I only got to see a few moments of it but it was tense. Nice write up, Martin. Sounds good about Chamberlain, and, heart in mouth moments.
August Diehl is in it. I've loved him since Inglorious Basterds. He has the most sinister smile and way about him I think I've ever seen.
