I’m not sure this electronic/strings can really be counted as a genre of music, but it’s a combination I really like. Only problem is, I haven’t heard much in the way of it!
Does anybody know any albums or artists that combine strings with electronic music?
I really, really like the Pet Shop Boys reworking of the ‘Battleship Potemkin’ soundtrack and their ballet score, which is the perfect example of the kind of music I’m looking for.
I know movie soundtracks are good for this kind of music, but I’ve never found the perfect one!
Here’s an example –

Like that too, thanks Martin
That sounds very recomposed to me. You know the Four seasons better than I How much does it have in common

Musically it sounds very close, it's the re-orchestration involving keyboards that makes it sound different and other-worldly. I love it as it retains Vivaldi's inventiveness.

Venetian Snares has released some mind bogglingly good albums which combine string arrangements with somewhat abrasive electronics - if the latter doesn't turn you off, then they're highly recommended. The key albums are Rossz Csillag Alatt Született and My Downfall (Original Soundtrack). Here's a track from each: Aphex Twin's Richard D. James Album also has a few tracks which combine strings and beats to good effect - a favourite of mine:

Oh thank goodness, for a moment there I though you were going to recommended that dreadful album they did with Speedranch. A more terrible noise it would be hard to imagine!

Oh dear, that's scuppered my Album Choice plans! But no strings on that one, as I recall - lots of heavy distorted beats and screaming, but no strings. Out of interest, how did you come by it?

From Nick (Beechwoods) on AoS. I think he used it to scare us... and it worked!

Heh, cool - great opener, that! But Snares's stuff isn't all like that - the two albums I mention above are much more thoughtful and measured. Here he is doing Elgar:
