Starting this Sunday on BBC1 at 21:00 War of the Worlds. Director Craig Viveiros said: “HG Wells' seminal novel has been adapted for the screen many times but it's always had a contemporary (and American) setting. This is the first version to be set in London and the Home Counties during the Edwardian period. The martian invasion drama was announced two years ago and filming on the series was finished in summer 2018 - which meant that it was originally expected to air last Christmas. Producers Mammoth Screen said that the delays were down to post-production problems in achieveing the CGI effects they desired. MORE

I've just noticed that both Grimm, and Sleepy Hollow are on Amazon Prime, my late wife and I enjoyed both series and I bought the DVD releases of both. MikeMusic, they might tickle your fancy if you haven't already seen them. You too speedysteve, come to think of it.

Thanks Paul Don't immediately appeal but can give them a shot You might find, if you give them time, that they "suck you in," Mike. I'm not pretending that they're high art but they do both have fairly decent 5-season story arcs, and the characters in both are quite likeable where they're supposed to be, and some of the villains are eminently boo-able.

Buy sweets with the rest of your bus money and then walk home via Knole Park. Happy days, Mike.

Was a little while ago so don't remember exactly That long ago walking was the norm Happy days indeed. Went to see the first Indiana Jones film in the West End when it came out Cheering, booing and clapping were just natural and added to the enjoyment

I saw "Earthquake" in the West End, I think it must have been at the Warner West End, and the week after that we went to "Airport 75" on their adjacent screen. Earthquake included " Sensurround," which produced a low frequency vibration along the seats which made it seem like the whole cinema was shaking. The punters in Airport 75 who hadn't seen Earthquake wondered WTF was going on, because there was only a wall between the two screens, and the seats in both of them shook. There were some very confused, and quite alarmed, cinema-goers.

I went downstairs from our flat in Camden Town, turned left and was in the cinema within 30 seconds. Saturday morning flicks were brilliant.

Jack Ryan LoL. In true alternative Ace Rimmer style "wadda guy" 😄
Hope it gives comfort to the TV watching Mericans that the USA is still the warm fuzzy good guy..

I started watching S2. I preferred it when Jack Ryan was a little uncertain and not at all heroic in nature, just in actions. Now that he's the all-American hero who can't do any wrong it's not so interesting.
Noomi Rapace is still hot.

I've just watched e1 of War Of The Worlds. No spoilers but I keep waiting for Jeff Wayne's music to kick in (it doesn't) and there's one developing motif that reminds me very much of the scenes from Nick Roeg's "The Man Who Fell To Earth" where it cuts to Thomas Jerome Newton's memories of his home planet.
Roll on episode two.

Another new series starts tonight on BBC 2 @ 21:00 - 22:30 : Vienna Blood.
Not the greatest of reviews perhaps, but I'll be giving it a go I think. It's written by Steve Thompson – the man who penned several episodes of Sherlock, including applauded series two finale The Reichenbach Fall

The Christmas/New Year teasers are starting to appear, so I've cherry-picked these from the Beeb Dracula: Created by Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat (Doctor Who, Sherlock) and starring Claes Bang, who I'm guessing you Scandi-Noir fans will recognise. Talking of Dr. Who: It's Series 12 and the gang is back. There are faces new and old from the looks of the trailer and even Stephen Fry turns up. No trailer as yet, but the six-part " The Trial Of Christine Keeler" looks well worth a watch, especially for those of us who remember, or are familiar with, the Profumo Affair. At last, an actual Christmas-ish program, A Christmas Carol: Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight adapts the Charles Dickens classic into a three-parter. The series features Oscar-nominee Guy Pearce in the titular role. Tom Hardy and Andy Serkis also star. Lastly, they're bringing back Worzel Gummidge as two one-hour films, written by and starring Mackenzie Crook. Michael Palin, Zoë Wanamaker, Vicki Pepperdine, and Steve Pemberton all join in. Caution: may include environmental messages.

Just finished
Leverage recommended, the odd not so good episode, lots of good and a few truly outstanding and very clever.
Jack Ryan s2. Not a patch on S1. Fragmented, messy, original set up utterly changed with him going from desk jockey to out and out spy super hero. Massive slur on Venezuela and full scale warfare very unlikely.

Agreed, JR S2 is not holding my attention. When he was anxious at being in the field it was clever and entertaining. As an action hero, it has resorted to Hollywood stereotypes.
