Is Sorbothane any good for damping/Isolating HiFi components? It seems to work on the Techie (Techniboots) so I was wondering if it would be useful between my glass shelves and metal rack. Also between the components and the shelf. I am thinking flat discs for the shelf to rack interface, and domes for the components.
How do these compare to the spikes Martin recently tried?

Yes Assume the Pods, Mini, Focul and Super are Sorbothane or similar. I rate RDC cones better and not a lot more money The mix of spikes and other is an ongoing quest for me Stillpoints Component stands or racks at the reassuringly expensive prices are even better

We're in danger of a terminology breakdown here!

Many years ago in my hifi youth, sorbothane was the in thing for all sorts from turntable mats to equipment supports.
I found it had no effect on my system wherever I put it. For speakers, Blu-Tack did the job better !
The trend these days seems mainly to be in the opposite direction, namely to make the support as rigid as possible, sometimes with a very small amount of flexible material, presumably to dampen and vibration.

If Sorbothane softens the sound, how about Isonodes? RDC cones seem a tad pricey to me.

I'm using RDC cones under my server and DAC with excellent results . I used them under my Sony TA FB930R which provided me with a significant upgrade in SQ . However , the big Sony TA F770ES sounded better without them . Horses for courses as ever .

I have just remembered that I have some Sorbothane domes I bought earlier this year. I'll dig them out amd see if they make any audible difference to my system.
My speakers sit on Blue Horizon spike shoes, and the rack is on Sound Spikes. I doubt that there is much vibration getting into my rack but if it is a cheap way to improve the sound quality, then why not.

If Sorbothane softens the sound, how about Isonodes? RDC cones seem a tad pricey to me. I went from Sorbothane feet on the Technics to Isonoes and Techniboots Isonoes then Techniboots Very worthwhile sound improvement in each case. More detail and more of a flowing to the music. If anything the TBs did better than the Isonoes Recently been trying many different supports under all the other kit so when some RDC cones and bases came up on Ebay I grabbed them for a try. Two tests 1. I thought the RDC cones were better on detail and completeness of sound To my surprise the other half preferred the Isonoes/TBs 2. Tried again. Differences were the same to me. Worthwhile improvement and RDCs stay. Price difference new/new the RDCs are less

Mike,
This is for things like my valve preamp. I'm happy with what the Isonoe/Techniboot combo do in my system.

Dead cheap - wooden cones. VFM is fabulous Slightly more and slightly better are any of the pods - but I'm not happy having rubbery items in contact with heat so your PreAmp may be a problem. RDC cones next in SQ and price, good VFM I think Slightly better and slightly more add RDC bases Stillpoints more money and noticeably better, but not cheap. Stillpoints bases lift the SQ slightly more Stillpoints Components stands improve SQ again, but not cheap and are bugly. I have everything on Mana racks which already improve SQ I recently got some RDC 4 cones which are not cheap at all but combine RDC on one piece and RDC with...... wait for it........ Sorbothane on the other My first test was a good and noticeable improvement on the Isis CD player. Currently sitting under the P10 where the improvement took me by surprise and I must check it again. Not sure where the RDC 4s fit in the above list. Somewhere around Stillpoints I guess, may be better £200 new I may have answered all of the questions you didn't ask, but I was flowing

Yup , oak cones are a worthwhile upgrade and excellent VFM with plenty of choice on Ebay . However , the RDC cones were a significant improvement again IMO .

Cones a good cheap try out to check supports really work
RDC is the one unless you can pick up Stillpoints for silly money

I'll try some wooden cones (or some of the Isonodes). If they work, I will see if I can get some RDC cones.

I have read that they are a bit hit and miss. What is so different about them, that I couldn't use a bit of wood from the garage?

I'll try some wooden cones (or some of the Isonodes). If they work, I will see if I can get some RDC cones. If you think cheapo cones are good the RDC are a nice step up and I think there is value for money upgrading Then of course there's the granite place mats (on top so not for valves I guess) They work too !
