Hi
New to the site and already broken the rules ! apologies all.
I'm a layman at best but I know what i like even if i have no idea how much of it works -- which atleast is the better way round to be .....
I have been interested in hifi for 20 plus years without ever becoming too obsessive ( i hope ) ... I am a bugger for choping and changing - I cant call it upgrading because I have often ended up with a worse sound as I tend to buy second hand as I'm convinced it offers better value but does often mean auditions are not possible or brief at best --- what the heck live dangerously and see what happens its more fun that way perhaps ...... my first 'proper' hifi was an all Linn system apart from a Nakamichi tape deck ( remember them !) - and here I risk controversy but for me there are better sounds for the pound but at the time I loved all things Linn and I do think the karik/numerik works very well and Klouts are definately good but can be pricey -- sincere apologies to all Linn fans and I stress I am not 'right' but it is merely my opinion. And I am happy to give ammunition to purists as I don't even have a turntable nowadays !
I've tried a few components over the years, especially when funds were a little less restricted --- favourite pieces to date include AN Meishu and I also loved the P2 power amp run through a passive pre, enjoyed Telerium Q Green speaker cables and TQ interconnects too, Living Voice speakers with a Leben 300 amp had beautiful synergy, and I had a Mac mini front end with a wadia DAC that was good too ----- however as funds have become an issue I am now running a more modest system but i will say for the money I think it sounds great and that after all is all that matters - I'd love to get back to tubes one day but in the meantime the underrated MF XA2 sounds pretty good to this layman's ears but my standout component that I luckily still have are my Electric Beach speakers ( the recent thread got me excited and I suffered premature posting ahem )
So current system - all s/hand apart from the Speakers and Server:
Transport : Sony XS33ES --- battleship build picked up for £100 !
DAC : Musical Fidelity M1 asynchronous ----- no idea what asynchronous means but for £275 s/hand it is marvellous
Server : Living Zen 2TB - v happy with this too and see now can be bought for £250+ region, again I happily recommend for a modest outlay
Amp : MF XA2 --- a lovely little integrated
Speakers : Electric Beach Flugel 3 --- exceptional - mine are finished in a dark grey BMW colour with plain black leather fronts and a black driver ( Steve from EB can tell me which one -- i know it was the upgraded one and i love it )
Interconnects including digital are Van den Hul the Second and I use the great value CS 122 Hybrid speaker cable
Looking forward to learning more and hearing of 'faves' ..... I think the speakers are for keeps but everything else is prob going to be swapped if past is anything to go by -- maybe keep the Sony too until I have serious cash
cheers !
