Martha Argerich is one of my all time favourite pianists and I *still* haven't seen her play live, despite having bought tickets for two of her concerts over the past couple of years. It's a bit of a lottery whether she turns up at all but I still hold out hope. If you would also like to keep an eye on up and coming concerts than I recommend the following blog, which details her forthcoming schedule - marthargerich.blogspot.co.uk/Don't forget there is also the very handy concert finder on bachtrack.com where you can filter performances according to a number of different parameters. She has one concert booked in next year at the Festival Hall - uk.bachtrack.com/find-concerts/performer=1208;country=1I'm not desperate to hear the Beethoven so will hold out for something more to my taste ... The holy grail would be a performance of Ravel's 'Gaspard de la nuit', my favourite piano work of all time. I have Martha's recording on DG 2530 540 and it is quite sublime ... Here's a taster of this work - not the best sound quality but very atmospheric ...

despite having bought tickets for two of her concerts over the past couple of years. Snap! Bloomin' annoying by the second occurrence.
For me, the Grieg would be my ultimate concert for her to play, but she is up against stiff competition in that I heard Radu Lupu play it live and he was beyond magnificent.

Ah, Argerich, yes she can be totally wonderful.
Her concert (non) appearances remind me of Pollini; back in my main concert going days when I was at Uni in London, the bugger usually didn't bother to turn up. Ah, but when he did .... I recall late Schubert sonatas ....
Argerich excels in a wide variety of music - somewhat away from her usual material, her Shostakovich PC1 recording is one of the best I have heard and as for her Mozart PC20 - revelatory is the only word.
I'd be fascinated to hear her in Beethoven piano sonatas, but are these even in her repertoire? I don't recall ever seeing any recordings.

The Sonatas are definitely in her repertoire - you can find a few of them on YouTube...
