Quick question Steve , do I need the WAVE10 board for the Najda xover? Thanks Only if you want to stream USB to I2S. Najda can receive I2S input (I remember reading was the recommended way), and it is indeed a up from optical / rca SPDIF.
Analogue in is excellent as well:)

Thanks Steve
I have a WAVE10 board in my DIY DDDAC and I use my apple laptop as my streaming device. My DAC obviously has an analogue out, and it is at this point that I don't know how are digital crossover works maybe its best I wait until I actually tackle the active project in a couple of months . It's just that I've got an opportunity to pick up a wave10 board for £50 so I wasn't sure whether I should pick it up for that or not

Time for a little update. I've been chopping wood again - this time some stands for the mid horns - with the JBL 2482 alnico mag compression drivers they weight 25kgs each and so some support is needed. 21mm Birch ply to the rescue. The change around has moved the tweeters to make way for the mids - the tweeters 'only' do the 'snow' above 12K and it means the mids can go in line again. Sound is very similar to the old room - bass is still different, but I'm liking that. It amazes me how well the horns work in close proximity to the sloping walls - they are not fussed at all. The walls, floor etc all add a bit to the horn loading. There's no neg reflection issues. I've not time aligned it yet but still liked it on a brief listening test. What to do with the Lazy Ribbon tweeters though? Tomorrow I will try them at the same height as the upper horns (smallest) both inside and outside and see what that does. I also added some wire mesh over the tapped horn mouths as our boy cat liked to go in them. As they taper and fold back (horizontally now) on themselves there was a risk he could get stuck - don't want to be cutting up a tapped horn with a cat in it! I put some silicone sealant runs around and on the mesh and it takes all ringing / resonance out of it. Gonna be interesting tomorrow to try it - That's Keith's Najda in there BTW under test - third shelf up. Waiting for the front panel to come back from the CNC machinist...

Oh I don't know, the cat could be used for variable damping...

Pleased it's working well for you Steve. I'have it in my sights to go down the active route in the next few months or so. I only recently realised the Nadja had an inbuilt DAC, I currently use a DIY dddac www.diyaudio.com/forums/digital-line-level/224108-nos-192-24-dac-pcm1794-waveio-usb-input.htmlThat I have probably spent well over a grand on building and upgrading, it's actually sprawled over my work bench as we speeak, how would you rate the level of performance of the inbuilt Nadja DAC, any insight would be helpful. Thanks

The 4 in built dacs are excellent. Right up there with any of the hi end stand alone dacs I've used in my passive systems.
Of course its a whole package of course. I first ran Najda on pass through in my passive system to access it. It passed my evaluation. I recommended Najda to several multi way hornists and they agree with me. It is an invaluable component in any multi way active system. I can't compare it to miniDSP but reports on that were scant. I found the sw addons confusing but I did not dig that deep.
Najda is all in one simple to set up and use.
The OP-amp change was worth while though. Small improvement in the scheme of things as its very good in stock form but worthwhile.

Looks fabulous Steve Reminds me of the scene in Back to the Future where Marty plugs in his guitar Makes me want to try out the other room I have - After an awful lot of hassling SWMBO which may not work

Thanks guys. If you are passing you're welcome to pop in and listen. Last night I ran it without the 'snow' and you def need it. I put the tweeters either outer side of the upper horns. They add the required fizz and good lateral sense. The Raals are very subtle and integrate easily. I then aligned the upper three channels and all is sweet. I've found an enduring set up for this room now. I like the bass very much but may have another go at the very deepest registers as it is not quite the same as was at the old place. The low and mid low is if anything better. It probably less measuring mic work and more listening and tweaking the room correction points until I get the sound on certain bass notes that I am used to / like.
Fairly quick to do with Najda;)
I only have a couple of correction points, that's how well the tapped horns work lying down, firing mouth up.

I spent some more time measuring anyway:) Went for a nice flat response 20Hz to 100Hz, BORING! Sounds contrived somehow. Reverted back and just played around with the frequencies I felt needed bringing to the fore. Don't ever try correction on the mid and upper freqs etc. It does not work IMO. Mid bass ok some but deep bass room correction is where its at. After I while I was able to get the kind of sound I wanted on those all important bass notes without any contrivedness (is that a word?). Still got the tweeters to perfectly time align so the measuring mic is still needed.

After much a to do about nothing, I abandoned the vertical setup. I could not get the same sense of instrument placement and imaging as with the wide setup. This is a bit odd, but perhaps not so daft when considering the room is rather unusual, so perhaps the unconventional is called for.
I also spent time measuring and figuring out how best to deal with the quite severe room modes I have at 25Hz +ve, 45Hz -ve, 75Hz +ve. Yes a real roller coaster. Measuring far away I almost got rid of the 45Hz suck out, but once I'd trimmed the system to work at that distance, the mid and highs sound dull and rather tunnelled!.
So back to where they sounded best and to work on the bass.
Thank goodness for DSP otherwise I'd be selling all my gear or moving again - I'm sure!
Sounding really good now. Def getting there. As much as I enjoy trialing and setting up there comes a time to stop thinking about setup and just listen and enjoy!

I think I will fit a dedicated PSU for the WaveIO USB to I2S converter too. I've been meaning to do it and have been slumming it using the lazy option of +5v 500mA from the Laptops USB supply. Not the cleanest supply I guess. The I 2S converter will be very sensitive to the +5V rail quality. I suggest you use a very low noise shunt regulator in this position? For instance, the Tentlabs modules are <50nV/SqrtHz. Just re-looking at possible 5v supplies for WaveIO. I remembered the tentlabs one you mentioned Martin. Only prob is that WaveIO needs continuous 500mA. Non negotiable as the creator insists! The tentlabs seems to be for flea powered applications at 80mA! Or have I read it wrong?

No, you haven't. Shunt regs tend to be for low current applications. For series regulation, I found the Dexa series to be good sounding.
