I have the Android Gizmo app on wife's Kindle and it's great. It controls the laptop on which I have Jriver and all music files very visually and nicely and doesn't really miss any functionality - except perhaps add a track to an existing playlist; that you seem to have to do from the serving device where the playlist resides. I can't always borrow the Kindle though (she's glued to damn FB on it:) ) and before I have to go out and get a tablet of my own...
I like my Lenovo X200 as general, email/surf/watch TennisTV do it all lappy. It can control Jriver remotely via Webgizmo! This is pretty nasty though. Albums / Artists are grouped in pages of perhaps 20 instead of as on Jriver and Gizmo - one continuous flow so you have to click and wait (ok not long, but...), click and click and click! It also has a bit of clunky feel to navigating in general and doesn't show the position you are in when viewing a 'playing now' playlist and no album cover is shown in that mode either. In single track playing mode in playing now the pic is small - smaller than on a 7" tablet even!
1. I wonder why Webgizmo is so crap whereas Gizmo is good?
2. Is there a better way to remote control Jriver from another Laptop. I've read that dual mode is not good from SQ pov but have not tried it...
Any help or pointers on how best to do this would be much appreciated.

2. Is there a better way to remote control Jriver from another Laptop. I've read that dual mode is not good from SQ pov but have not tried it... Yup! Just install JRiver onto the other laptop, then go to the installation on the machine you want to control, and go Options > Media Network and select "Use Media Network to share this library and enable DLNA" You'll probably then be asked to allow a firewall exception - yes to that. Once it's done, copy the access key, then goto JRiver on the laptop that you want to use as a remote control, File > Library > Library Manager, and click Add Library, then name it, and enter the access code. JRiver will then load the library from the server machine onto the controller, and you can either stream straight to the controller, or use it to browse and playback on the server, just as you would if you were using that machine. Let me know if any of this isn't clear!

Tried it but had a problem.
Lib set up / access code no problem and connected. The Library name (G500 in my case where the music is stored) is a client of the Library server (X200 in my case). The Libname G500 shows in the controlling window of the X200.
However when I try to play something the Lib server x200 laptop shows Opening where the Lib name was and then a message pop up that it is looking for the ASIO device (which is obviously connected to the client G500) - I can't see how to get around this right now. I want to keep the ASIO device installed etc as I have the Library server X200 laptop as a back up or will use it when it's nearest and I am too lazy to go and get the G500. In the overview there a the rather confusing (to me anyway), columns 'Player' which is blank and 'There' which has the G500 playlist.
Also, on restarting Jriver on the Lib server X200 it connects but the G500 Library I created is gone. I can recreate but the same thing happens over.
Any help gratefully received. I'm sure there another setting but I can see it.

Hmm, after a Jriver crash on both laptops and a restart on each the Lib server now sees the client as 'There' and lo and behold when I click on the the 'There' I get the Server laptop playlist in usual view. What's playing there and then I can access playlists / tracks from 'here' anyway. More playing needed:)

Hi Steve, Yes, whatever 'zones' you have on the server will show up as zones under the 'Playing Now' tree at the top on the left hand side, prefixed with 'There:'. When you connect to the library, by default the selected zone will be one tied to the controller - usually called 'Player' (I rename this 'Here', to prevent confusion). So, just select the zone prefixed with 'There:', which will most likely be your regular ASIO device, and then browse and play, and the file should play on the main machine as normal.

Thanks. What confused me what the Lib name (G500) in my case, but that now seems redundant in use as I cannot see it in the list of Libs...
Anyway, working nicely now:)

Marvelous! The network stuff opens up some nice possibilities, e.g., linking zones across machines for simultaneous multiroom playback, or playing to the controller from outside the network, for access to your tunes when you're away from home.

Thanks again Pinch. Yes, I've used the remote play to Gizmo and now can do it on the other laptop... Unfortunately Nmedium the W8 phone app won't let you go quite that far but it can be used as a basic if a little small controller too.
For the listening session this afternoon with MartinT and John I used the laptop and Kindle as remote controls - worked nicely.

Yes, Gizmo on Android is very nice, and I guess whatever it is called on I products is good too. Very easy and tactile interface.
I'll probably get an Android tablet at some point but I do like a keyboard for proper typing, cut and pasting, spreadsheet work and laptops are so flexible for this hifi lark what with Najda / Holmimpulse / Hornresp programs to run, all useful in the pursuit of audio happiness:)
