I have not seen Steve for a good few years. Steve runs a small speaker company called Electricbeach. His latest build that he is tweaking is the LeGrande Performance speakers. Steve has a pretty straight forward setup. Oppo Player Duncan Tube DAC An Audio Note Amplifier LeGrande speakers Intially he played a different model. They are anylitical in comparsion but also open sounding speakers. However Steve quickly moved to the model he is currently developing. The LeGrande. The speakers uses either Fostex 4” or the MA 6” drivers - using Sonido 7” with AlNico magnets. In the past I have not been a fan of the these full range drivers in the configurations I heard them. So my expecations were that I would hear the whizzer tweaters as I usually do. What they do create is a sense of natural tone and timbre. The sound is open and can fill the room with music. With the track Paris, Texas by the Goten Project we both was transported to an intiamate venue with the musicans a few meters in front of you. I could not test with any of my torture tracks. like the start of In the Prescence of Enemies part 2 to test if they could capture the dark sense of fear, or the Deepness by Those who ride with giants to see if it would capture the whale song, without getting distorted. Overall what I heard was a musical performance that could with the right recorded track fully emerse you in the music. All of this without fancy cables or complex network soloutions. They don't do really deep impactful bass, but the do give you the natural timbre of bass. They can be ruthless with the wrong recording and will ahow faults in your system if it has any flaws. However they can transport you to a different space and time. flic.kr/p/2qrHZaLThanks Steve a fasicinating experience as always.

I think on reflection what the system is about is intimacy and a musical experience, as oppossed to scale and dynamics

I'm glad that Steve is still creating designs. He's a good chap (and my EB S1NX shelves remain excellent supports for source equipment).

It would be great to hear, from Steve, a little about his work with these speakers.

Hi again guys
Thanks to John for making the 3 hour journey to visit for a session and for the very useful feedback and insight he always provides.
Having built speakers of a certain type for quite a few years now, primarily pipes with full range drivers plus upward firing AMT tweeters which you’ve heard, it was exciting to come across a design which continued the same ideas and direction with greater potential.
The nearest to imagine would be Audio Note resonant/ minimal damped boxes but using accomplished full range drivers. The concept priorities are for tone and a more natural projection of instruments and voices. Using Sonido 7” AlNico drivers at 94dB and the intended room loading they fill a room with 20 class A watts. They are designed for near-boundary placement and twin vents in the bottom for floor loading.
My wife: “Hello John! You’re in for a treat.” 😎

Hopefully not grounds for divorce. For those that know the Goldnotes I found Steve speakers to have that same sense of natural timbre and speed. Yet again thanks for the hospitality.
