Not knowing phones.... Is Android good/better than Windows ? Something's are definitely better with Android. Better integration of apps, smoother experience opening linked vids, BBC stuff etc. More apps choice and yes it does matter, some valuable apps are disappearing from WP more or less without explanation, Swype works more intuitively / smarter, esp. editing and at the budget end you get more bang for your buck HW wise as the range of WP is lacking. Things just work faster, even using the OneDrive Nokia should never have gone anywhere near MS! Most Nok employees were horrified at the time and it all bore out. Personal gain by a few at the top I think! Anyway now Nokia are back with Android NOT MS Bill Gates LOL, says it all Android holds 86.2 percent of the market..

Swype works more intuitively / smarter Probably the only thing I don't agree with. Swype on the Lumia 950 is superb.

I found it you wanted to say edit a line in a search box you could not put the cursor where you wanted. Had to delete the whole thing and start again. Frustrating. No such problems with Android.

You have the keyboard 'joystick' on the 950, making accurate cursor positioning easy.

Seems the end is ever closer for Windows Phone I saw this on the Telegraph site; www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/2017/10/09/microsoft-finally-killing-windows-phone/The head Joe Belfiore has switched to an Android OS phone and said the user experience is better on android or iOS - I could have told him that 18 months ago! That's pretty much buried it I guess, which is a shame but inevitable due to its continual poor app support. So Mike, don't buy a Windows phone - now you just have two to choose from

Based on my experience of both platforms, it'll definitely be a switch to Android as and when the time comes. However, I'm not abandoning my lovely 950 just yet.
There's always the hope that the proposed Surface 'device' which can make calls will be appealing. We shall see.

Should be nicely sorted by the time I get round to buying a phone

I am not in a hurry to get rid of my Nokia 1020 and Lumia 950XL. I haven't got any reason to change. The phones make calls, take pictures and videos, do text, etc. And that is what I need a phone for.

I haven't really investigated SSDs yet, but I've just purchased one. It's most unlike me as I usually do my due diligence before a purchase, but this seemed like a really good deal, so I grabbed it. It's a refurbished Intel SSD Pro 1500 Series 180 GB and I got it for £46.50. I'm not sure whether to put it in my existing box and set it up as the boot drive or save it for a new build I've got in mind based on an i7-7700K.

Presumably you're going to put Windows 10 on it? If so, good move as W10 is highly optimised for SSDs and fully supports Trim. In lay parlance, it's designed for SSDs rather than rotating drives and goes like sh1t off a shovel!

Thanks for the tip Martin. Any excuse to open a command prompt.

All systems go! I've specced and bought all of the components, including a 27" monitor, and I actually came in £8.22 under my £1300.00 budget. It's sort of a " last hurrah" for me as money is about to become very tight so I'm going out if not with a bang at least with quite a loud POP!

Gosh, £1300 is a lot of dosh for a PC unless you're a gamer.
I think I spent about £800 for my i7 BRIX with NVMe SSD, 16GB RAM and 27" monitor.

I spent £250+ on the graphics card, another £230.00 on the Core i7 7700, 32Gb of DDR4 memory was £220.00...it soon adds up. I've tried to get the bast performance at my price-point and "future-proof" it as much as possible. I do have a few games I've always quite fancied playing. GTA is not one of them though.

I've been using my i7 Surface Pro all day at a conference today. I put it into battery saver mode and recommended brightness. I started using it at 07:30 this morning and am on the train home now. I used it to take all my notes in OneNote. The battery is still showing 53% left.
Well impressed!

That is one area it would whoop the Apple equivalent, which have possibly the worst battery life I've ever come across!

And the iPad used to be the model of battery life! 51% now and I'm nearly home.
