So from the local shop I bought Quad 57’s £500 and Celestian A2’s (£300) . This blog is about the Celestians because the 57’s are done so well by their designer there is no work required, singing away via my EL38 SE amp.
Either the Cambridge CX60 is dull or the version of apple tv I have is dull. Or the celestians are dull.
i have a friend who made his own version of plasma tweeter. Ive sat with him listening to hes various attempts. He only lives a few villages away. It was quite a long time ago. I could visit him but I havent since covid because he has hiv through no fault of his own (blood products from USA convicts).
how far he got with plasma tweeters was problems getting flyback transformers made reliable enough was an issue.
Maybe I’ll knock on his door and see if he can make me a couple. He is a lot cleverer than me.

Paul, I forget which manufacturer first started trials with plasma tweeters.
Isn't there an issue with ozone creation in the room?

He designed his version from scratch, he didnt do it the way the commercial plasma tweeters or the diy plasma tweeters that copied those were may. Being Richard he stood back and invented his own way. But he used TV fly back transformers. The solid state circuit is his own design and build. Live in his room it sounded great.

You are right, but its not as much ozone as the ozone generators commercially used to keep smells down in toilets like by Mcdonalds et al. A tweeter doesnt put out much. You can smell the ozone from room conditioners. Richards tweeters had no smell. But yes ozone is given off by the plasma. On the plus side the flame has no weight, so the medium which makes the sound is unimpeded by density.
