A small streamer/dac. I have not bothered trying the DAC and I have just used it to stream via Qobuz, although I am tempted to try Amazon. I hear it a good platform but most streamers do not support this format. First of all a quick nod in how easy it is to setup, it basically guides you through the process. The app is superb and along with the usual functions it can chromecast, making it great for watching live music via youtube. To my ears even sounding better than using Bluetooth for this method.
It has both WIFI and Ethernet, but I found WIFI to add noise, making my listening experience unpleasant. Using the ethernet makes a big difference to the noise floor. I would imagine adding a FMC would drop the noise floor even more.
Sound wise I would place it on a similar level as the Zen stream, but would value its lived experience higher as so intuitive to use. If I was keeping this I would remove the WIFI and DAC

Hard to beat for the money John, had my WiiM Pro for over a year now and have no complaints. Never tried the internal DAC or WiFi, I have it hard wired via ethernet and use TOSLINK into a Rega DAC. Mostly gets used as a DLNA endpoint for streaming FLAC files from my JRiver server. I don't currently have a streaming service since I cancelled Tidal, just enjoying playing my own music at the moment. I'm one of those odd folk who still buys music

Well John, there's nothing stopping you following Vic mod,and put it into a new case. That way,you could probably add some additional sheilding to reduce the boards co interfering...Still that's for further down the line.

No I want to be able to sell it without issues. Forgot that it's not a permanent kit on your list.

For the money it is of course really great. But it reaches its limits (even as a transport) when you try to improve on its internal noise floor, by pairing it with better power and cleaner ethernet signal, since it can only go so far due to its cheaper (noisy) internal components. See the test here: www.alpha-audio.net/review/using-wiim-pro-as-a-streaming-bridge/This should not be seen as something negative since it is what is expected at this price and still it is probably an over achiever!

Have you actually used one? No, but that wouldn´t say much anyway, unless i had used several streamers and compared them. As i said, it is great (according to every review). I had a WiiM mini at one point so i have used the software which i found really great.

I guess it's about managing expectations, it's not perfect by any means, but it's 150 quid and for people not that obsessive I've yet to try anything with as many features, as good an app or that sounds as good for that kind of money. Even building one yourself out of a Pi or similar can't match it for value and performance - I've tried. It has a great and helpful community too - when I first bought one it had issues with gapless playback from JRiver, but WiiM fixed that once the problem was raised on their forum. That to me is quite impressive, but I don't really consider myself an audiophile, so have different expectations to most here

Yes, their customer service and their transparency is worth the price alone! They are just amazing on the software part, for sure! Hats off and something for others to learn from.
