Excuse me for not wanting any more of MQA and their CODECs.

Fans will get to choose their format – either PCM/FLAC or MQA - in a service that will ensure high-resolution audio streaming whether you are in your home or on-the-go.”

Agree. Not for me. They will clearly be spending to much of their money and time trying to flog the rebranded MQA tech rather than just focusing on running a streaming business likes the likes of Qobuz.
In the press release it talks about latency. Mobile streaming works fine for me when I use it. So feels like they maybe trying to create a problem to fit their tech.

I'm pretty sure they have already chosen and it didn't go MQA's way last time.
Flogging a dead horse?

Is this the reason Tidal is changing MQA tracks to Flac next month? Or did I read that wrong.

Is this the reason Tidal is changing MQA tracks to Flac next month? Or did I read that wrong. Tidal parted ways with MQA awhile ago, April last year I think and have been phasing out their content since that time. MQA technically went into administration at that point, but refuse to die off and have since been bought by Lenbrook, who also own Bluesound and NAD.
This is an attempt to revive it as a lot has been invested in MQA, many millions. I'm agnostic to it as a format, but a lot really like how it sounds and have bought MQA gear because of that, so potentially there is still a very large user base out there - a lot of people own Bluesound products and love them. The only issue I had with MQA was the dishonesty and manipulation to try and force customers into using the format and attacking people who discovered they weren't being open about it's authenticity as a lossless format, which in my opinion would ultimately have limited choice for both music purchase and equipment purchase, with MQA calling the shots . . . . a monopoly in other words.
That's my interpretation anyway, others chip in if they think that's wrong?

No - that's it in a nutshell. MQA was effectively a lossy compression format but they tried to hide it with all the 'folding' explanations.
To my ears, it sounded glassy and fake-edgy, not very natural at all.
