I stumbled upon a thread on Twatter the other day, which was written by a VFX artist, and it was one of the most interesting things I'd read in quite a while. I was trying to work out how to translate it across here, but to be honest it was far too big for me to copy and edit it. Blow me down, a couple of days later and the same guy is explaining the same to the Independent. It's a fairly short article, but after reading it I really do recommend the Twatter thread that's linked in it, which is the same thread I read, from Rassoul Edji. There are loads of pertinent contributions from other VFX guys, plus other creatives working different fields. The one thing a lot of us agreed upon was that clients are a pain in the arse. www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/films/news/vfx-cgi-movies-avengers-b2557019.html

"we have a lot more work to get through in a shorter amount of time"
Basically explains it in nutshell. I'm working on a show now with a schedule that would not have been out of place back in the early noughties when I was working on seat of the pants get it out yesterday tv shows. And this is a full fat, 1000 shot cg talking animal gig, the hardest level of work. The days of meticulously poring over shots on the likes of Harry Potter films until they're absolutely perfect are long gone sadly.
