I have added a grounding box to the earth mains. It has certainly helped reduce noise. With acoustic music I am happy but still not their with rock music, but not as much hiss.
I need to give the box more time.
If I cannot get to where I want to be I will need to reconsider what I am doing.
I no longer have a dedicated listening room where I can tweak to my heart extent and have to share with devices such as the TV and router that might be adding noise

Could you try some sort of Ac filter, isolation transformer or Dual online conversion UPS, either on your Hifi equipment or the Tv/internet equipment to separate them as best as possible?

How effective is grounding to the metal on the RJ45 cable ?

How effective is grounding to the metal on the RJ45 cable ? Not very, as RJ45 is often transformer isolated from the rest of the circuit. That's why I ground to the -ve pin of the power connector.

I finally got to a place I am happy with. I know a lot more to come with a better streamer

It's only now I can give you a sense of the DAC It would have been good to hear it on your system Martin In terms of inputs it's quite basic Coaxial USB and BNC It's quite heavy 10kg and uses a Sabre based chip. Its bloody expensive, but sometimes you get what you pay for. I confess I am not sure if I will keep it as more than I was planning to spend. Without doubt it's the best DAC I had in my system. Whilst it has plenty of detail, it also has weight to each note, without fatigue or harshness. I am impressed with it. I can't compare to anything as my system is so different since I had the R26. But I am pretty sure it's even more solid in it's presentation. Bear 🐻 n mind I am only using the Wiim.

Not confident enough to do that. Will look at mine closely again

sorry you are having issues with the wiim. based upon other reviews i’ve seen and tests as a streamer only it seems very ‘ok’. The noise level at its wifi input / coaxial output would seem very low for input to an outboard separate dac with this wifi electrical air-gap I can’t speak from any direct experience, but slept at a Holiday Inn last night

I see the Wiim as a stop gap. It has a great app, so much better than what I have used in the past and the Chromecast is a brilliant trick it has up its sleeve. I plan to get something like the Aurender N200. It has two aspects I like. I can put a hard drive on it so I can listen to my obscure CDs and had built in Lan converter so I keep the box count low. Bloody expensive but seems to have what I want.

To be honest I still don't feel I am there yet, but the main thing is I am not being annoyed by the sound. I should get a grounding cable for the router today which should help with the noise floor. When more money is free I will get a LPS for the router. The good news is I now feel confident that I have the basis of a superb system.

Great to hear that the system is coming together.

Grounding the router has further helped lower the noise floor, for instance guitar distortion is clear and more realistic, with the fizz I was experiencing almost gone.
