Hello,
I recently came across these videos when looking and various stuff about Green Tech, climate change, EVs, AI and robotics, why doesn't matter but I think what these contain are important to understand for all of us. They are certainly interesting IMO.
I will not pre-empt them but would suggest that you to watch them with and open mind to start with. By that I mean whatever your current position is in terms of being Greener, climate change impact, EVs and other new power technologies, emerging AI and robotics try and put that to one side and just listen and think about what is being said and demonstrated, once you have then think long and hard about it, and decide what you think and let others know.
The first video is from Tony Seba, a very well known advocate of technical change, and giving realistic forecasts on change, and how it will impact and improve our world. He is is also rounder of the ReThinkX group.
The second video is the first in a series by Adam Dorr, who is part of a team at ReThinkX, I would suggest you watch the whole series. It covers many topics and addresses many issues and explains in a clear and concise manner what and how we as a race can and will solve what we think are impossible problems.

Humanity is doomed, we could do something to avert that but we won't, we're too self centred, greedy and violent. Three to four hundred years time, if civilisation is still capable of functioning by then, it'll be on it's knees save maybe a select elite. Or gone completely . . . the planet will do very nicely when we've all gone too and set about healing itself.

common sense in humanity will come to our rescue This is the same world as those who believe the Earth is flat, or that vaccines carry a chip to control people? Or those who worship sky gods and, as you say, kill people in their name? Don't get me wrong, I love the utopia of a currency-free Star Trek world where everyone does something for the common good, but it won't happen with humans where the 5% of nutters who need to have more and to dominate others will win out every time.

Agreed as well. I really think it comes down to a person's outlook whether they see doom for humanity. Countries like Norway and Japan are showing us all some good examples of how to make positive change. I actually think that our best and brightest minds will save us all.

And that I feel is the biggest problem we face - it's up to each and everyone one of us to change and sacrifice our lifestyles for the greater good. If we keep waiting and hoping someone is going to save us, we are complicitly accelerating our demise. Right now our best and brightest minds are telling us we are in real peril, but nobody is listening to them, some are even calling them crackpots!
I would like to think we will come to our senses, but I'm an optimistic realist rather than just an optimist.

I can't agree Tim. Doctors have told me that as individuals our destructive behaviors sometimes do not stop until we face a real scare. That scare finally shocks us into action.
As a civilization we should have already become scared. But apparently it's not enough yet.
The real reason I think we will be ok is because I just dont see how a creature of nature can destroy itself. How could that even exist in our program. To be unconsciously sleepwalking to our doom doesn't add up to me.
It looks bad now but I think we are learning from our mistakes and will follow the examples set by the the nations leading the change.

Agreed as well. Inrwally think itncomes.downnto a person's outlook whether they see doom for humanity. Countries like Norway and Japan are showing us all some good examples of how to make positive change. I actually think that our best and brightest minds will save us all. I completely agree, what the majority seem to fail to realise is that we, and I mean Western society (UK, EU USA and others) are at risk of being left behind. So many are embedded in the past and either do not understand what is happening or just do not want to accept it because they are too invested in the old. Just look at China, it car fleet on the road is 55% electric today, yes that right, legacy car sales in China, i.e. GM, Mercedes, BMW VW, Toyota etc. have fallen through the floor, about 5% total of what they were 18 months ago. Also China is investing and installing massive solar, wind and battery solutions, they KNOW that economically it makes total sense, they are turning off coal/gas burning power stations as they go. India is well on its way www.indiatoday.in/diu/story/indias-solar-surge-a-look-at-ambitious-plans-actual-progress-and-funding-trends-2517248-2024-03-20 and is just about to go up the Solar curve exponentially, and has huge plans for Wind energy.economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/renewable/india-set-to-boost-wind-energy-capacity-to-25-gw-by-2028-with-2-lakh-crore-investment/110304227 and in Robotics analyticsindiamag.com/7-humanoid-robots-which-were-made-in-india-and-their-success-stories/The good news for us in the UK is we are way ahead of the game with wind and are rapidly expanding solar, and large volume battery storage looks like it is on its way. We are know for innovation so hopefully we will move to the forefront of AI and robotics, this looks good www.ukri.org/news/12-million-for-uk-projects-to-address-rapid-ai-advances/ and it seems we are moving forward www.ukri.org/what-we-do/browse-our-areas-of-investment-and-support/artificial-intelligence-and-robotics-theme/ So personally I do not see gloom and doom, its just people generally do not like change, they fear the unknown and what they do not understand! Look at me, my first computer program was written using punched card in 1977 at University, when I left on on a green screens. I worked on IBM mainframes as big a a small room with 16Mb of ram until around 1986, then I was introduced to IBM Notebook and shortly after desktop PC running on DOS, in 1989/90 I was working on MS Windows machine desktops and a year later with MS Windows NT servers sat under the desk, and working on a workflow application for a bank. As we know the processing power, speed and storage power grew exponentially in the 90's, basically on the back of mobile phone chip innovation. Apple Macs came to the fore slowly and when the iPhone came along it shook the world, and major players dissappeared, Nokia, Motorola and a few more. Throughout this I had to learn knew programming languages and operating systems, my family and friends did not understand what was happening and even though I tried to explain it was lost on them, some resisted it, but gradually it overtook them and nearly all have a reasonably high end mobile device which they would not let go of. What is happening now is thenext step it, industries, technology and AI together will move at an even faster pace than before, it will give huge benefits to all even though they cannot see how at present.

What has depressed me most is the recent opinion based on extrapolation of fact that it is already too late and we will be lucky to be under +3' all too very quickly
Why aren't we draught proofing like there is no tomorrow.

Well we might not have to worry about that Mike as the Doomsday clock is 90 seconds to midnight - it was 7 minutes to midnight when I was born, so it's not going in the right direction! It's not just global warming we need to be concerned about and that's figured into my belief that we're doomed. There's population growth, feeding that population, space for effective agriculture, water, deforestation, decline of fish stocks . . . the list goes on and that's without factoring in the two countries who currently seem hell bent on taking us to the brink. We're on borrowed time on this planet and it's inevitable, it just can't sustain our growth and consumption at it's current rate. So unless we leave, or radically change the way we live and consume resources, it's just not possible ad infinitum for us to continue like we are - it's basic science. Anyhoots, this curmudgeon is going to watch a film now

Plus population decrease in most Western countries One reason we need migrants
Headlines are too often baited to get us to read. Detail, no. Full story, no

1804 is the year that google claims the earth reached a population of 1 billion people.
1927 for 2 billion.
1963 for 3 billion.
In 2024 we have 8 billion.
Despite all of thenhorrible things that are happening we have a level of comfort right now that we might not have when we reach 20 billion soon.
These are the good old days now. I think when we reach a crisis will be shocked into action to save ourselves.

Population in UK and Europe is in decline. Could become dramatic As countries put in health care, women have access to birth control and people can plan families the population naturally comes down. Replacement for the UK population to stay where we are is about 2.3 children per couple. From memory it is around 1.8. Takes years for this to shake out and politics and media just get in the way of sensible decision making
Japan and South Korea have problems on the horizon with their very low birth rate. Robotics and AI may help but they have a huge bulge of oldsters coming.
Migrants ? Madam went for a blood test yesterday, Ashford, near Heathrow Nearly all patients white Nearly all staff not white. And what nationality were the white staff ?
