A starting point....
Life was so easy when I used my parent's stereo (!) radiogram
Not so now. Separates and accessories all over.
Rules as I know them.
Power in as simple as possible, dedicated power to unswitched sockets best, as opposed to a cheapo 4 way with another cheapo 4 way off that. Worth paying a sparky to come in Cables reasonably short, saves money too if buying top end products
Keep signal and power cables as separate as you can. Cross at 90' if you have to.
Clean, sensitive front end, like streamer, CD or LP player away from the dirty kit like power supplies and regenerators Ideally sensitive at the top, dirty at the bottom of racks
Isolate every item as much as possible, Black Ravioli good. Weights like granite placemats or coasters on top of kit. Could one put a small grounding box on top of other kit ...?
How many criteria did I forget ?

How many criteria did I forget ? The most important one Mike - just sit down and listen to some music, just music.
You actually said it yourself . . . 'Life was so easy when I used my parent's stereo'

I'm going with Tim.
I would add: listening to music comes first, adjustments to the system only in spare time, don't eat into your listening time. Finally, don't make any changes you can't roll back.

No, no, no Mike. The most important; it has to be black!

What about a spreadsheet where you record what change you make and the observation? Just to prevent you 'remembering' incorrectly.

I listen to music nearly all day If I can have more music from the same favourite pieces even better Remember when parents away I rigged up the stereogram to feed into my Sinclair amp and separate speakers Probably my first tweak

Changes take a back seat most of the time for me Still have to Mad Scientist speaker connections and others. Next power cut maybe The App and TAS are for me to save time and plug in or swap around kit. So much I now take for granted came out of the blue. Really did *not* want that Sound Org table for the LP12 when my Linn Naim system came in Then I heard the improvement Mains cables, footers weights on kit, clean kit away from dirty was all a surprise
