Has anybody heard a Wadax system, particularly the reference level components? I’m curious to know if they are worth their huge asking price over other gear. wadax.eu/reference/

No. Nice concept, can't say I like the aesthetics much.

Why do people always rate a system by its price? It tells me nothing.

It tells me nothing. Best digital front end in the world & only bested by Tape ( he also had a Studer A80 )

I’d have to try it if I could afford it. It looks like they have gone to every length possible to get the most from digital.
Judging by the gains TAS members have made with their digital components, it makes me wonder what is possible when R&D and money are limitless.

...the Atlantis REFERENCE DAC ...a product that contains 23 printed circuit boards, 10 independent, purpose-wound power transformers and over 5,500 discrete parts.

We have three world class R2R's in the studio which one which I have built from the ground up up. It sounds stunning. The Wadax is financed by massive EU parent company who are a nine figure turnover company. The sheer effort, man hours and funding put into this project is quite something. Having owned the MSB select II which I would suggest was the previous king of ultra fi. The Wadax is beyond this, the power supply imho is simply the best I have ever seen in audio up there with some of the orbital launch craft. I have spent time with three of these Atlantis front end systems all out-of the UK. How good is it really, easily the most impressive and expansive sound I have listened to, to date bar none. Stage depth and decay actually is more than a match for my own personal system, detail retrieval is absolutely world class, dynamic contrasts are something else. Martin would have died and gone to audio heaven. Realistically if you have nonething to trade and purchase direct from a dealer in would suggest around 220k is a more realistic figure as a starting point in the EU 240k euros is the starting point for negotiating. Is it the most complete digital sound currently available if you have a matching system capable of delivering its amazing performance then yes. Have experienced the Wadax in full systems from 800k to near 2m and each system had varying performance levels from funking amazing to mind melting hifi performance. Although its ultra sensitive to supporting equipment as is any top of the line product. My reservation on this superb piece of equipment is the same I have for the MSB Select II applies to Wadax, as stunning as this four box system is and it is something else for me is the lack of ultimate musical involvement and the innate ability to connect at an emotional level with music, simply as you are inextricably drawn to its amazing hifi properties it detracts you for the musical connection imho. That said not taking anything away from this stunning engineering achievement.

Martin would have died and gone to audio heaven. Well, I'm glad I haven't heard it then. No point torturing ourselves with unobtanium when there are still terrific levels of musical playback left to achieve.

From how the sound is described it sounds like that I would not enjoy. Fascinating engineering

For instance, as far as I'm concerned your system runs on unobtanium.

For me, the Wadax is probably one of those things I’m better off not experiencing, at least with familiar music, because I’d spend the rest of my life wanting it.
I do like the design and style of the Wadax reference, but one thing that caught my eye was all the round push buttons on the front. They look like off the shelf AliExpress buttons.

The Wadax is an engineering tour de force built by a company with a large R&D budget and facilities as a statement of intent product and its absolutely right up there, the whats best forum boys are jucing their silkies over it and working out how the finance it lol. Hence why Taiko are bringing out another reference streamer (lol) Looks wise it's marmite looking like an Antoni Gaudí designed 1920's Barcelona frontage isn't everyone's cup of tea, others will disagree. The looks like the sound are personal. The buttons Matt as with everything on that pairing designed in house and built quality is simply as good as it gets no question. As both Martin/Paul has pointed out is the cost for the real world (you could argue it's not real world) and was purposely spec'd for the crazy rich Asian/New money Indians and Chinese plus a few west coast billioniares etc It's a statement product like a Chiron or Damien Hirst, 99% of these will be sold to the crass cash (nouveau riche) no question. It's not unobtainium for those its daily currancy. For the rest of us mortals does it matter? It not going to effect us From my perspective its the enginnering that is interesting, not the sound which I should be, BUT as the vast majority of you chaps know I'm a music lover first and formost, not a hifi wow factor jaw dropper................... I have been in a Veyron a couple of times, yes it was fun but not as much as my old ex touring car we use to punt about the circuits, a lot less expensive as well and you could lather that around without fear of a speeding ticket or a five figure repair bill lol. Just one thing new tyres every year £25K+ every three years new wheels and tyres plus a warranty extension for another 3 years over £110K really another dream world. lets keep it real, and Matt you should hear one Boyer and doing the rounds this year on the show circuit, its worth the effort for you own sanity. Also let us be brutally honest, potential clients for this products will not be looking at audio forums for guide here LOL, they will dispatch their buyer to the exclusive dealers do that for them. Everything in audio is subjective BUT there are pieces that just stand out this is unquestionably one of them.
If aspiration & discovery was bottleable, I would suggest then most of you would own one by now.

I’m a couple of pages into the Wadax thread on What’s best forum. Reading with interest. And then we’ve the opposite end of the spectrum on pink fish media where people are arguing that the Eversolo A8 or Wiim streamer are bit perfect and as good as it gets.

This is all relative Matt, take Mike who's bluenode is his pinicle, some its Ultra Rendu, others it's a takio and everything else in between and THEY ALL SOUND different no question for various reasons and placement (not withstanding the switch and other internet accessories from the router to the back of the streamer). Recently I installed an all in one streamer dac/amp and a quality pair of speakers, as I mentioning to John earlier just two cables and it did sound very good indeed, not quite what I look for, however pretty decent none the less.
This is audio, we all have our own tastes and preferences and our ceilings however low or high there are, but ultimately its about how comfortable we are with where we are now, nothing more or less. Exactly the same with cars/bikes/watches or what ever hobby flaots your boat

They'll be spoilt by having a supercar at that age and will likely crash it through their abilities falling short of their beliefs.
Now then, if you're, say, 65 (just picking out an age at random, you understand) then why not?
You won't find me lusting after a Ferrari, though.

I find all this young wealth gained from crypto or nonsense Influencing has ruined the youth of today. It seems impossible to get a good apprentice these days as nobody wants to work for their money.
