Just a short post to introduce myself:
Interested in knowing how to repair Genexxa speakers (foam/rubber woofer surrounds perished), which speakers to pair with a Musical Fidelity NuVista amp (Electrostatics, B&Ws, Sonus Faber - any ideas or suggestions?) and what comes after SACD as the best digital source?
Cheers HMR

Hi hmr and welcome to TAS! Speakers are such a personal thing, it would help to know what room they are for, what musical tastes you have and your budget. As for what comes after SACD, I doubt any format will better it and I have yet to hear consistency in the format, so there is a long way to go yet.

I have a pretty wide taste in music but predominantly listen to Baroque, Choral, Classical, Opera, as well as reggae, jazz, fusion and rock.
At my age the ear's frequency responses are sadly not what they used to be!
Current set up is Musical Fidelity KW SACD into Musical Fidelity M3 Nu Vista (which as you can see is steam powered) into a pair of KEF 104 11s - the weakest link. Room has a wood floor (about 14 x 21ft - ceiling 8.6) with the speakers in the window bay (curtains behind them). I also have a Thorens 150/SME 3009/Ortophon turntable and a Nakamichi 600 Cassette deck (rarely used).
Speaker budget?? Lets see what's suggested. Hope that helps with the recommendation.

Love the steam power!
Ok, knowing the dynamically limited KEF 104/2, there are a few to choose from: from the rather dry B&Ws (but could go well with the MF Nu Vista) to the musical Ushers and then on to the warm side with the Italian Sonus Fabers (which I think would be too much of a good thing). I heard the Usher Dancer Mini-Two at the show and they sounded wonderful, barely scaled down from my Be-20. They would be worth a listen, for starters.
Or could you stretch to Be-10? Big stretch!

Hello hmr! Enjoy the forum.
Don't worry too much about budget but I'd recommend s/h every time. Some cracking bargains to be had in speakers especially if you can pick them up. I like Audio Note speakers - a bit rare s/h but they deliver a clean, crisp, unflavoured sound. I've also got an older pair of Tannoy M20s which sound good as well - £20 from a charity shop or there's some on eBay for £80.

Hi HMR and welcome to TAS; I would frankly advise some serious listening sessions when it comes to Sonus Faber speakers. Their latest offerings (post Serblin) seem to have a quite distinct and different voicing than their earlier counterparts. More on the "clinical" and analytical side of things, rather similar to, say, Audio Physik; worth auditioning nonetheless,as ymmv. A big thumbs up from me as well regarding Usher speakers; great speakers, built quality is second to none and they usually represent excellent vfm. Another, left side suggestion, would be something from the Triangle stable - very entertaining speakers (especially their Magellan series) and would (I think) bode well with your electronics. Speaking of which, I've heard your gear once back in the day - dealer had them driving some Spendor speakers (can't remember which ones) and it sounded really good indeed. Hope this helps Cheers -j.

Which Sonus were you thinking about?

jnk Which Sonus were you thinking about? In recent months I've had a good listen to two oldies, the Guarneri Hommage and the Electa Amator II; of the newer ones, the Cremona, the Olympica monitors and, lately, the two Venere floorstanders. I preferred the sound of the old ones (in the context of my system/my ears obviously), rather underwhelmed by the Cremona. The latter 3 are, no doubt, fine speakers and I'm sure they will appeal to many out there. Just didn't do it for me - and, frankly, I found their sound to be nothing like the "typical" Sonus Faber one of old. Which other people might in fact prefer. They're worth a shot/audition, see what they do for you. Cheers -j.
