Dead can Dance - AnastasisThis is one of my top ten albums, never far from being played. The combination of Brendan Perry's soulful singing and Lisa Gerrard's soaring wordless voice makes for some quite wonderful soundscapes. Combined with drone-like bass lines, lots of percussion and a touch of synth, they do more of what I listen for in music than anyone other than Bach. They sound glorious when on song, as with every track on this album. Although an Australian duo initially, they finally settled in London and periodically tour the world. When not with Dead Can Dance, Gerrard works with film soundtracks (she is famous for her mournful singing in Gladiator) while Perry works on Solo projects such as his terrific album Ark. When together, there is always magic. open.qobuz.com/track/16834900

A 4 from me. Mainly as it is a album I would only play occasionally. Exceptionally well recorded, atmospheric and exotic. I might change my mind when I get a SR X9000 Stax headphones as so well recorded and give it a 5.

I had no idea that Lisa Gerrard is in Dead Can Dance. Her voice was tattooed onto my brain when the film The Insider hit theaters. There's a scene in there in which Russel Crowe's character has a vision of his children playing and the music in that scene called 'Meltdown' and her vocals are just devastating.
Will take a gander peak after work.

I had a rough go with this. Lisa Gerrard was not what I thought, on this record I mean. I did find some type of footing at Amnesia, Opium, Return Of The She-King.
One thing that excites me these days is knowing that as much of a music fiend as Ive been all of my life streaming has only accelerated it significantly. I've learned that I do best when finding a spot on an album to branch out from and see if I can find something for myself that way. Like with all album choices I'll give it a shot.

I enjoyed it, perhaps, more than I thought I was going to. I wouldn't rush out to buy it, but neither would I leave the room if it were being played. 3/5

A mixed bag for me.
Brendan Perry's vocals seem more suited to crooning Frank Sinatra tunes in an LA bar to me and I'd have enjoyed it much more if he was banned from the mic. When Lisa sings it's a different matter and it's difficult not to be seduced by the intoxicating allure. Generally speaking I don't enjoy faux Middle Eastern music but it's difficult not to be impressed by the instrumentation here.
3/5 just.

Been catching up today on past Album choices, had a rather traumatic April with issues on a new car for Sue which interrupted music listening a bit, still not sorted out, but hopefully light at the end of tunnel, anyway back to the music.
I like Dead Can Dance very much and have a few of their earlier albums and the latest Dionysus, personally I like Spiritchaser a lot, although I know some are not so keen. Anastasis is quite anthemic in places, and a few tracks take time to develop, but it is all pretty good, a 4/5 from me.

Spiritchaser is a close second to this album, in my opinion.
